Just keep watching until you get bored of it. It was pretty entertaining all the way through, I just had enough and didn't watch the last season

I had just had enough at that point. I forced myself to finish season 7, and tried to watch the beginning of season 8, but I just wasn't hooked anymore like I used to be and fell off. Maybe I'll go back and watch it again one day to see how it ends

The absolute answer is to stop at the end of season 5 and just convince yourself that it was the series finale. The rest is pretty much hot garbage. Season 5 is outstanding though.

I'd maybe watch the first episode of season 6 if you stop at 5 because 5 left Bauer on a bad note.

Watch it all. 6 Is not great nor the first half of 7, but I think it hit it's pace again and finished well.

Pretty much this. At some point you'll start feeling like everything is recycled, repetitive, and increasingly preposterous and feel like stopping probably. Can't say that's any certain point though, more of a personal thing.
As for Breaking Bad, I'd say you are supposed to find 3 or so of the characters annoying at certain times. In some cases they evolve and that changes, in others they just stay annoying.
