Beginner Survivor seasons question (No spoilers)

Big Brother has started losing my interest lately so I wanted to give survivor a try to see if the gameplay was any better. I had never seen survivor so I googled best seasons and one of the consensus best was season 20 heroes vs villains. I wanted to know as little as possible to avoid being spoiled so went in completely fresh and I was BLOWN AWAY. I loved every minute of it. After that I did some more reading about that season and one of the big recommendations was "if you're new to survivor, although this is the best season, don't watch this first because you'll miss so much backstory from prior seasons". I can definitely see how that would be the case but I don't think I'm ready to strap in for like 10+ seasons of survivor binging.
With that said one of the best rated seasons that is all new players is season 28 which I just started yesterday and will work my way through in the coming days.
My biggest question is what would be best to watch for my 3rd season? It looks like the most recent season from 2019 (can't remember the name but it looks like another returning all-stars season) is also damn good so I'm thinking that one. I think Parvati is on that one and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't smitten with her so that'd be a bonus. In season 20 I loved the dynamic between boston rob and russell as well and I think they are both on another returnee season, maybe even the one from last year?
I'm open to any and all spoiler-free suggestions. I just loved the cutthroat gameplay in 20 so much, it was such a breath of fresh air compared to big brother.

the first 3 were really good. i get lost in the numbers with season x-xx. but, i don't remember too many being as good as those.

If you've watched 20 and 28, then I'd say don't bother going back to the very early ones as the gameplay is very tame comparatively.
Micronesia: Fans vs. Favorites (season 16), Cambodia: Second Chance (season 31), and Winners at War (season 40) are some of the best, but all feature returning players.
Millenials vs. Gen X (33) and David vs. Goliath (37) are two of the better recent seasons with all new players.

That was Samoa, season 19, one before Heroes vs. Villains.
Had the returning players seen season 19 before filming Heroes vs. Villains, I don't think Russell would have stood a chance.

awesome this is what I was looking for.
Between the ones you mentioned (16/31/40/33/37) what order would you rank them for someone to watch considering 20 and 28 will be the only seasons I've seen prior? Also on the topic of all star seasons 16/31 do you think I'm "hurt" a little (for lack of a better word) by not having watching a ton of prior seasons to know the background on the people?

I really liked Season 26. It was a mix of old and new players. Lots of crazy moments and I thought some decent game play as well.
If you watch Winners at War, you'll obviously be spoiled for quite a lot of the most recent seasons. It's just 20 winners playing again. It's a good season though.

You know Ive watched every season as it has aired but it would be interesting to watch them all in again in order and watch how the game play has evolved over time. I get more interested in the players than the game and how many different ways you can actually win it. There is no playbook really.
Boston Rob is my favorite player but Cochrane's second season was the best game ever played to date. Tony in the most recent season a close second. Both of Tony's wins were awesome. Liked the Mike Holloway season (30 i think) too for recent ones. Millenials vs Gen X was a good season also but that was one where the season was better than the winner

I havent seen some of the later seasons and if you are new to the show some of the real older ones will be hard to watch. Here are my rankings of what i have seen. I have been watching since season 2 so some of my rankings are definitely nostalgia rankings so take them for what they are worth.

Iyo does it matter which order I go in among those 3? I guess just going in order would make sense.
Also it looks like season 22 redemption island has the return of Boston rob vs Russell but you've got it rated pretty low. Is their feud not enough to carry the season? Why is that one rated poorly?

Definitely do 40 last, its all previous winners so it will spoil some other seasons for you, other than that i think you are ok for the other two.

Dont want to spoil it for you, it just doesnt have very much drama, one person pretty much dominated the whole season.
ETA:
I know its old, but if you want to see true "Survivor"...season 2 (my #1) is brutal conditions and it was back when they gave them nothing. They were basically in the Australian desert with nothing but some rice. Not sure if its still true but at one time it was the season where players lost the most weight.

Granted right now I've only seen one full season and that was 20 but I thought parvati played about a perfect game as you could even though she didn't win. The move she played at tribal council with the double idols left me speechless lol

I can't speak for the person you responded to, but it's not rated very high by a lot of fans because Rob dominated the season, and many think production rigged it for him. I don't know that to be true, but a LOT of the individual immunity challenges seemed designed for his skill set.
Since you liked Parvati, I'd recommend Micronesia next. I just recently re-watched it and it is one of my favorite seasons.

I think it was really well played but the best game ever played in my opinion was Season 29. Without giving any spoilers, the last five episodes or so are the most underrated player moves ever. It's chess vs checkers for one of those players at the end.
As far as seasons go though, I still liked 26 more than 29.
