Dirty Work

(ok not a CC movie per se, but he's in it and it's great)

I agree with Fletch, but I've always liked this one a lot.

None of the above.
His best movie is the one I turn off before watching because he is such a douche.

But if I had to answer honestly, it would be Caddyshack in spite of Chase’s presence. How could yall get that wrong?

For films in which he was the (or at least "a") lead and not also a Vacation film?

Foul Play is underrated. While it didn't win much of anything, the film, Chevy, Goldie and Dudley Moore were all nominated for Golden Globes.

Obviously, I think Caddyshack is a GOAT comedy candidate, but Chevy was just part of an ensemble there.

I love Deal of the Century, but Gregory Hines stole it from him.

Spies Like Us is probably too quirky for many.

The other thing is - Chevy's career turned so quickly, it was jarring. He was leading films like the Vacation films, Fletch, etc., and then after a couple of stinkers, he was quickly relegated to support in other films. He was effectively washed up by his mid/late 40s.

So, with the caveats above (e.g., I think Foul Play might have been his best overall performance), you're probably right that Fletch is the best "Chevy Chase" movie (whatever that entails) that was not also a Vacation film.

Modern Problems is underrated. Dabney Coleman was great in that. "I'm a god damn good looking man!"

How big does his part have to be?

I'd pick Caddyshack, but if you mean where he plays one of the leads, I'd probably say Spies Like Us.
