You had me looking up John Candy and found a couple of good clips.
John Candy as Orson Welles
“Fight! Fight! Fight for Washington State!”

Uncle Buck...just one of my dad's faves and I remember watching it with him frequently. It will never get old.

You know someone was a great actor and person when there is only one downvote on the entire first page of a thread like this.
My favorite is PTAA

I loved him in Brewster's Millions.

Picking a favorite John Candy movie is no easy task, I don't think I even wanna try picking one!

This movie never gets mentioned by anyone but me but I love it.
Such a great cast John Candy, Eugene Levy, and Meg Ryan are the leads but the supporting cast is solid as well with Robert Loggia, a young Jonathan Banks, and Kenneth MacMIllan.
And images like these.

If he had lived longer, probably would've won an Oscar for some dramatic role he took.
I agree with this. Candy had such incredible screen presence. He is just the natural focal point when on screen. John Goodman has a similar quality.
There is a great Conan O’Brien story about when Conan was at Harvard he was tasked to go pick up John candy for something on behalf of the national lampoon. Rather than a “you don’t ever want to meet your hero” moment, Conan says he had the best afternoon of his life just taking Candy around town for a day.

All of these great comedies and I just did a search on John Candy to find something to watch on Netflix and "nothing".
Could have sworn that Uncle Buck and Spaceballs were on there fairly recently.

Same here, I wonder what happened to her?
I looked up her imdb profile awhile back and it seems like she had a few minor credits in the 90s, but nothing major. Always assumed that she either got married or saw something on a set that made her want to get out of Hollywood(lots of rumors about the Lucas set).

One of his less well remembered roles is with Tom Hanks in Volunteers, as an earnest Peace Corps worker who gets captured by guerillas and brainwashed into being an equally earnest communist.

It seems like people forget that he was in Splash with Hanks too.

Tough call between The Great Outdoors and Uncle Buck for me as far as best movie.

John Candy as Orson Welles
One of my favorites too. In case someone doesn't know what Candy was parodying, here's Orson Welles infamous outtakes from a commercial he was doing for frozen peas:

With Charlie Sheen on the set, that makes sense.

you named it yourself....but I will say that it is the best movie he was in but not his best performance.
Akroyd made that movie.

He had comedy down but he had so much more depth in that area that we never got to fully see imo
100%.
He’s one of many actors that was “attached” to Confederacy of Dunces at one point or another. That really could have been his perfect Oscar type role.
Still funny but Ignatius J. Reilly is definitely a complex character with a lot of depth that Candy could have brought out so well with a great script and director.
He’s still how I picture Ignatius every time I reread ACOD.
Love all the movies being mentioned here, his catalog really is great
