Figured this would be fun, and it would give me an easy way to find something new to watch...

Here's a list from Films101.com of the previous three years of best movies.. in case you need to jog your memory.

LINK

I've become very picky on movies, and feel like everyone else that movies just haven't been very good lately. Sure, there are a bunch of movies out there for most people to like. I had a hard time finding movies on the list I actually really, really liked.

I'm gonna have to go with Guardians 3. as much as I'm sick of super hero movies too. But it was fun..

That list is quite the indictment on modern film making. A lot of crap. I would go with Dune Pt. 1 or Godzilla Minus One. Granted I have not seen most but have no desire to see most.

I thought about the Godzilla Minus One.. that was a good movie too.

Dune didn't grab me like I had hoped it would.. I haven't watched the 2nd part yet. May watch it this week.

Wondering if that's going to be the overall consensus. Probably.

I haven't seen Oppenheimer yet, but I feel it's going to be one of those slow, interesting one-time movies.

Movies I gave the highest ratings to in the last three years are

The Northman
The Killer
Godzilla Minus One
The Outfit

Out of those four I'd probably say Godzilla Minus One

Well it's definitely not Zone of Interest...

Probably Oppenheimer. Watching in the theater was an experience I haven't felt since Titanic. I have yet to watch it at home so I'm not sure it'll hit the same, but I definitely enjoyed it.

Anatomy of a Fall is very good, but it's one of those movies I think are so well regarded because of how shitty everything else is right now (Lady Bird, CODA, Spotlight, etc.)

Dune, Oppenheimer, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. I'm not a Spider-Man or cartoon guy, but that was a pretty brilliant film.

What a bunch of absolute dogshit the last 3 years. I'll go with the Equalizer 3 because it was at least a fun watch.

There is legitimately not one single movie from the last three years that was even remotely “enjoyable” to watch. Everything is trash. It’s been nothing but monsterverse films, MCU films, and cheesy slasher films. Screenwriting has massively declined in quality since the pandemic and it’s why I don’t even bother going to the theater anymore unless there’s a re-release of a classic.

My biased pick is Dune p2, my objective pick is Oppenheimer.

This sentence would be easier to stomach if we hadn't seen you championing the quality of Monster's Ball this weekend.

If I'm thinking personally enjoyable to me, I'd go with any of Babylon, Decision to Leave, or The Taste of Things. Maybe Dune 2.

If I'm trying to determine an "objective" best, it's probably The Zone of Interest for me.

All of these are, of course, monsterverse slasher films.
