Billy Madison Decathlon Question

Currently re-watching Billy Madison and have to point out something that has always bothered me. During the decathlon montage, it shows Eric win the track and field, mathematics and band portions easily. Billy won the cooking and drama portions easily.
During the science portion, did they give Billy the win for pulling his boot out of the pot?
Also, it seems like both Eric and Billy royally screwed up their essay question at the end, which should have been a tie. If Eric would have gotten credit for the science portion, then he wins the decathlon.
Am I wrong?

Billy was ahead by 1 point going into the final round. Eric didn't even answer his question. Billy wins.

I know that, but Eric should have won the science part, which would have put Eric up by a point entering the final round. Biggest screwjob ever!

Well technically, Eric should have been out after the 2nd round after he suffered 3rd degree burns over his entire body

However, had Eric protested that Billy might have cheated during the Science portion, then maybe Robert Smigel would've discovered that Billy was in fact only wearing one shoe. Had Billy been DQ'd for cheating (as he should have) then Eric never pulls out the gun and Chris Farley never falls in love with a giant penguin.
