I thought episode 3 was the weakest of the three I watched so far, but I still enjoyed it. Definitely felt like og Twilight Zone. I feel Issa Rae's character was supposed be wooden, seeing how she was just dropped into this AI world with no warning. Maybe I'm giving her too much credit.

Rewatching Common People and Bete Noire now since I was a little buzzed the first time. Hope to take out the rest Tuesday.

In Common People when she started having Ads was genius I thought.

On Hotel Reverie.....im not even gonna get into how boring it is or how shite the acting by Brandy Friday is....

Why the frick would they remake a movie with ONE different actor.

I don't understand the angle

Hotel reverie really lived up to Netflix checkbox stereotypes and the only thing I could think of the whole time was Cartman saying “put a chick in it, make it lame and gay”

Callister’s probably the best episode in the series. You’re lucky you haven’t watched yet.

Just watched Plaything. That had a nostalgia hit of video games from the 90's, but not much else. I love the Will Poulter character.

So far, I rank them:

1)Bete Noir
2)Common People
3)Hotel Reverie
4)Plaything

Will watch the last two over the next few days.

I actually thought Hotel Reverie had to be Netflix making fun of itself. Brandy Friday was absolutely awful in that role and they did not try to pretend otherwise.

*****SPOILERS THROUGH FIRST 2 EPISODES BELOW*****

Watched the first two this weekend.

-Common people was perfectly "alright". Didn't hate it, didn't love it, but it was decent. It kinda feels like the writers room went like this though:

"how about someone dies but then we bring them back to life and they can still carry on wiht their spouse?"
-Didn't we already do that with 'Be Right Back'?
"ooh yeah right. Ok then, they aren't dead. Something happens but then their brain is uploaded into a computer system where it can continue to live on!"
-Didn't we already do that with San Junipero?
"oh yeah, rats. Ok well let's do that again but incorporate subscriptions?
-Brilliant!

You could see kinda early in the story where thsi was headed so it wasn't really a "twist" but I do think they pulled it off in a decent way. The ads seamlessesly put into convos was a nice touch. And man I felt their pain with having to keep coughing up more. You could kinda figure out that eventaully she had to die at some point but I didn't foresee him doing it, and not in that way. Also I think at the end it looks like he's going to commit suicide on the dum dummies site..but why? I mean I get it becuase of the grief aspect of losing the spouse but why broadcast it? He wouldn't get any money from it. That's just a 'thinking out loud' kinda thing and not relaly a gripe or nitpick. Overall, good episode. Defintiely felt "Black Mirror-y"

-Bete Noire I'm torn on. On one hand I was definitely enteratined throughout. I had that anxious/dread feeling right there alongside the main character. The biggest question mark to me though is the motiviation. By all accounts from the main character, verity was just kind of a shy nerd that did things off to herself in school. She was essentially not even involved in the girl's life at all other than MAYBE some light teasing, if that. The vibe I got was that she was simply ignored more than anything. So then verity decides to come up with this earth-alterting kind of thing to the point that it drives these people to kill themselves? Geez overreact much? Like if they made it out that main character was an actual bully that made verity's life hell at every turn that'd make sense but it just feels weird that she'd go to all these lengths for some seemingly random person at school that just happened to be more popular. And the very end was just kinda hokey. "Empress of the universe"..it's like something an 8 year old would come up wtih to end the story. But anyways....the whole point is enteratinment and I was entertained so thumbs up for me there.

ETA: actaully I totally forgot until just now that verity believed maria to be the person behind the damaging rumors that spread through school about verity jacking off a teacher. So now it makes more sense.

All I could think through Common People is how many terrorists a company like this would create

Eulogy is the only episode I've watched thus far and I thought it was decent. Sad, but decent.

Through the first 4 episodes. I think Plaything is the best out of the 4.

I'd rank them as follows

1) USS Callister: Into Infinity
2) Plaything
3) Eulogy (was really good, just didn't feel much like Black Mirror to me)
4) Common People (enjoyed it but someone hit the nail on the head with the writers)
5) Bête Noire (someone else alluded to it, was thoroughly entertained - Verity was legit creepy when she drank the milk and started Maria down too)

6) Hotel Reverie (I kept finding myself on my phone a good bit during this episode.. just, not very good - how am I supposed to believe that even if this were a real scenario that the acting by Brandy Friday is any good - even if she's dropped into some world decades before her time?)

**SPOILERS FOR PLAYTHING***

Hotel rev was next up but I didn't realize how long it was so last night I skipped it went to Plaything. Man I LOVED this one, except the very end really fell flat for me. I was engaged teh whole time and was entrenched in the story. The entire episode felt like old school BM and man I couldn't wait to see it all unfold. So then we get the singularity event and then....credits. I get taht the whole episode has built up to this one singular moment so it'd be difficult if not impossible to keep things going after it occurs. But man it felt like such a cop out to end the way it did. Still though even wtih the dud of an ending I'd rank this one up there pretty high as far as episodes from the last 3-4 years, granted the competition isn't all that tough for that honor.

I’m having a hard time getting through Hotel Reverie. The plot is uninteresting and Issa Rae was a poor casting choice.

That's the point. I'm a little surprised that this board hates this episode, but it appears that yall aren't getting it. They're clearly making fun of the fact that Hollywood keeps doing remakes and changing the lead actor to some minority figure and it ends up sucking arse. The acting is intentionally awful because shes playing a role that she shouldn't be. I thought this board would eat that up.
