No one is saying that, but BlacKKKlansman is still in theaters if you want to pick up a bunch of black kids and bring them to the movies.

You’re gonna sit there and tell me that if they would’ve chosen one of these movies that you wouldn’t be in here saying you’re tired of white guilt movies and they are just pandering to SJWs and will unfairly get all the awards?

I could not give a less of a shite about movie awards. In fact, I couldn't even tell you which movies won best picture in any of the last 10+ years. Nor will I care who wins the award this year (if it hasn't already been awarded?)

But, presumably, the reason for black history month is to recognize and celebrate the historical achievements of black people. Somehow, I don't think the "achievements" of a completely fictional comic book character really highlights all the ACTUAL achievements black people have accomplished

Jesus Christ! This is beyond absurd and overt pandering. Sadly, very few will be able to look beyond the social justice haze to set it for what it is.

In March are theaters going to have a week of free Superman showings to celebrate immigration?

Frankly, I'd be embarrassed about this if I were a black person. Of all the people throughout history who literally risked their lives to take black people from slaves, to second class citizens, to equal members of society, Bob Iger of Disney is telling us we should celebrate a minor comic book character as some sort of "hero"? How insulting.

The actual production and success of the movie along with the cultural impact of it being success was a land mark for minorities in film and if that resonates with people enough for them to go out to see it in February then who cares and good for them. Who are you to tell them how they should celebrate their culture when it doesn’t effect you in the least?

I mean shite every July 4th to celebrate our countries history we show replays of Independence Day on repeat, and guess what? That’s not a non-fiction account of America’s history either you’ll be surprised to know.

As others have said, they're celebrating the historical significance of the film, director, and cast's accomplishments. They're not telling kids that Black Panther or Wakanda are real.

It's as if they brought in Tiger Wood or Serena Williams when they first hit the top of their sports, showed their current highlight videos, and had them speak to kids. They can't bring Ryan Coogler in to speak to every classroom, but they can easily do field trips for a free movie.

I think that the awards for Black Panther are all-hype, but its financial accomplishments and popularity are real. There's nothing wrong with letting every black kid experience the movie's success while it's actually happening.

I know that everyone here is super-concerned that Black History Month remains packed with authentic historical information , but I'm sure the usual info will be taught. It's not like two hours in a theater is going to replace the rest of BHM for these kids.

It's funny because Wakanda is really, frick anyone who isn't Wakandan.

They let the starving masses of Afica die at their walls. MLK was the same as any other barbarian to them.

WTF does Black Panther have to do with black history? Are they saying that movie is factual?

It's the most successful predominantly black cast movie in history.

I was told that the theaters are raising the price of some of their other films to help pay for all those free tickets they'll give out.

I don't know. Those aren't Disney films. Why don't you ask those production companies and distributors why they didn't make a deal with AMC.

I heard it's just white people that are charged more. White males. You should look into it.
