Just watched it and it was a great episode.
Except for the fact that they fricking killed Vane. Cannot believe it. He was the most badass character on the whole show. I can honestly say I wasn't expecting him to be killed.
Teach is about to go fricking HAM on England and Eleanor

You had to figure if they followed any kind of historical plot that a lot of these guys get hanged/killed in battle. It's just the nature of it.
But frick. My team loses in the damn tournament and they kill off my favorite pirate in the same weekend. Talk about depressing.

I haven't been this gutshot over a character dying in a long time. Probably since I read The Red Wedding in A Storm of Swords.
Teach is about to frick shite up.

Just finished catching up with the last 5 episodes, myself. There was a thread before this season where many were wondering and questioning how this season would go. I have to say it has not disappointed in one bit! Each episode has built upon the one before and you can tell it's leading to something so epic in the season finale next week.
I'm sorry to see Vane go. Dare I say I got a little misty-eyed when they showed the behind the scenes stuff at the end. But in this plot, his death will obviously be what reignites the pirate rebellion on Nassau.
Can't wait for next week's finale!
Edit to add:
I feel like this is some of the best television in a long time.

Yeah this is far and away my favorite show outside of Game of Thrones. I think one thing Black Sails does better than Game of Thrones is not relying on graphic sex scenes in every episode. There have been more episodes this season with no nudity than with and it has been the best season of the show so far.
I hope Teach burns everything to the ground.

I kept waiting for someone to come to the rescue and save Vane.
Then I realized Vane is not Glen of the Walking Dead.

Some think Sails has equalled, if not bested, G.O.T. already.
I am inclined to agree that they are at least on equal footing, especially with the way this season has gone.

That whole scene leading up to it was super intense. Like you said, I kept waiting for Billy to give the nod but as soon as he looked him in the eyes my heart sunk.
And after Vane talked to Eleanor and told her that her shitty arse Dad put her up for collateral and she still had no sympathy, frick that bitch. I hope they capture her arse, drag her through the streets, and hang her for all to see.

This season has put it on equal footing IMO. Vane being killed may have put it over it because up until this point, certain characters felt "protected". Now that the best character has been killed off, that feeling is gone.

It's better than Game of Thrones. I know it's hard to admit that but it simply is. Game of Thrones is still top tier television but the writing has been really hit or miss over the last two seasons. Just think about all the boring filler episodes that we've seen since season three. Black Sails does not do filler, and that's what makes it fricking awesome.

I'm glad I saw this thread. I feel sick about him dying and it will be hard to continue watching going forward. I'm hoping after a few episodes this feeling will fade.

Cannot go that far BUT this season has been titanic for sure. I just watched the last 5 episodes over the last 3 days and it has been great television.

I used to like Eleanor but I hope she rots in hell now.

Seeing as how the real Charles Vane didn't get hanged until several years after this is taking place, I didn't expect him to die yet.

Not to take anything away from Vane, but Flint is the baddest of the bad on that show, with Teach possibly giving him a run for his money at some point in the future.

Do not read the history of the players online or read Treasure Island as it will give far to much away.
Vane was doomed to be hang before we where born, unless the writers pulled a Spartacus on us.

I had known he would eventually meet his end but did not expect it to come this soon in the show so I was completely caught off guard. I had read the ASOIAF books before the show so I knew of the major deaths when I saw them on TV.
Knowing all of that and I felt like this was one of the most powerful death scenes in a TV series ever. The way they juggled keeping the audience confident that Vane would be rescued but meticulously building up an incredible and respectful way to kill Vane, all the while we had no clue of the impact until seeing it all, was incredible.
His speech had me wanting to pick up arms and revolt against the crown as well. Definitely makes me get a feel of what it must have felt like for Americans during the lead up to and war with England for independence.
"A shepherd? You are the sheep."
"Get on with it, motherfricker."
He went out like a boss.
