Was this made because people have been calling Dux a liar since the movie and this is to set the record straight? I remember he was called a fraud because of the movie. But I loved it as a kid!

Oh we was a total fraud.

But the movie was legit, and overshadows the man the story was based on.

Its cool to see Paco again, he would have owned everyone there IRL. I hope Ogre is back in it as a special appearance.

This seems like an bad idea but I'll be there with bells on. And Young Frank needs a cameo in a Saquon jersey and SF Giants hat.

So, this is fake, fooled me too. Lol But nothing like the original, Frank Dux. Lol Shame people gotta get old, the crazy big guy in the original that played Van Damme's friend made the movie as funny as he was. I forget his name now, he hit Bolo in the head and took his head band and started celebrating thinking that the fight was over, wrong. Lol

Decent fan trailer that...actually would be a good idea.

The idea that nobody believes him and winning a mythical Kumite kinda cool even if it would try to redeem the fictional stories of Hollywood hucksters like Frank Dux.

He makes Rudy look like...there's no reason to add "inspired by" to "a true story" in the opening credits.

The movie is great...so we don't care that Dux is a charlatan. The end credits and records ad-naseum don't add and nobody cared...it works as pure escapism fiction. No one thought it was real until they tried to convince us with "facts" at the end. The movie is too crazy.

I discovered a couple of years that Suan Parades (the fighter who got his leg broken by Chong Li) is played by Michael Qissi who also played Tong Po in Kickboxer.
So basically Chong Li>>>>Tong Po. Not that there was ever any doubt.

Today I learned that Bloodsport was based on a true story, and then learned that the true story is really made up, all in a period of 2 minutes.

So my original understanding of the movie, which is that it was a hollywood fairy tale, is apparently accurate.

Wild, right? I looked at the history of it years ago and it's pretty funny.

The actual filming of the film should have been a documentary itself. I wouldn't have wanted to be in Kowloon

I mean when you're a kid you might be swayed...ehhh...maybe, after watching all those Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris movies where everyone acted like Bruce Lee was a real fighter in life and tournaments (Chuck Norris was in tournaments) but Karate tournaments were sort of faux fighting...you couldn't do real UFC damage, against the rules.

So what does Frank Dux claim? What's the story?

UFC was named after him.
“The first thing is, it was called the Ultimate Fight Challenge." “I was known by Victor Moore as the Ultimate Fighter or the Ultimate Fight Champion. Nobody could beat me – I retired undefeated. I mean truly undefeated.” "They’re going to call it, to honor me the Ultimate Fight Challenge."

He went 329-0 in his "fighting" career (don't know if this includes bar fights)

Frank Dux's story was a fable printed in Black Belt Magazine in 1980 (a magazine which printed anything to sell copies, it made Penthouse Letters seem legit.)

Black Belt magazine in 1980 said that the Kumite (secret fighting tournament) was held once every five years...then the movie says...“From 1975 to 1980 Frank W. Dux fought 329 matches. He retired undefeated as the World Heavy Weight Full Contact Kumite Champion.” So in TWO Kumites he fought 329 matches? Man, the movie only gave us 4 or 5.

The entire movie is based on one article in Black Belt Magazine...which themselves said "we can't verify the veracity of these claims due to the secrecy of the tournament."
“Military records show that Dux never ventured closer to Southeast Asia than San Diego. His only known war injury occurred when he fell off a truck he was painting in the motor pool.” John Johnson in the LA Times, May 01, 1988.

The organization that staged the Kumite apparently had the same address of Frank Dux.
