Bob and Don: A Love Story on newyorker.com

Twenty minutes. On the New Yorker site, but shouldn't be behind the paywall. (It let me watch it, anyway.)

ETA: They've posted it on YouTube.

Two funny guys I've had the pleasure to watch for many years.

Totally different styles with Don being "in your face" and Bob being so subtle and cerebral.

Must be true that opposites attract and good to see they had a lifelong friendship.

OP, thanks for posting that video. Made me laugh out loud a few times.

Very few people can work a room like Don Rickles when he’s “on.” Dude is brutal and slick and hilarious. Some of those old roast videos are awesome.

Rickles had his act, but I think he was a pretty loyal and warm guy off stage. He broke character in his last TV special before he died, getting pretty emotional and sincere.

ETA: and while looking for that special without luck, found this YouTube series I didn't know about: Dinner With Don.

Looks worth checking out.

Dinner with Don is a unique legacy series honoring beloved comedian Don Rickles. In these 13 episodes, Don breaks bread with actors, directors and comedians he’s inspired over the years as they talk about life and his 60-plus-year career in show business. It was filmed at some of Don's favorite restaurants in and around Hollywood.

This was Don’s final project before his passing in April 2017. Celebrity guests Jimmy Kimmel, Snoop Dogg, Amy Poehler, Zach Galifianakis, Paul Rudd, Sarah Silverman, Billy Crystal, Rich Eisen, Vince Vaughn, Marisa Tomei, Jonathan Silverman, Judd Apatow, Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese got to show their love and appreciation for this comedic legend while he zinged them in classic Rickles style throughout the meal.

The series was produced by AARP Studios, Winbrook Entertainment and Stamper Lumber Company.

Here's the entire Donohue program (guests Newhart and Rickles) that Apatow took clips from:

Watched this little mini doc earlier. It's great. It's cool that you can tell how much those families loved each other.

And Newhart still looks mentally sharp, even at 94.

"Did you ever in your wildest dreams ever think you'd find yourself in a position of trying to get out of having dinner with Frank Sinatra?"

"The Driving Instructor" is one of my favorite stand-up (or in this case, sit-down) routines, ever.

I remember, from way back in the day, hearing a radio interview with Don Rickles. Don was going to meet some girl in a restaurant and he saw Frank Sinatra having dinner. Don went up to Frank, told him he was having dinner with a girl he wanted to impress, and asked if Frank would stop by and say hello. Frank was reluctant but Don went on about how much it would mean to him so but eventually Frank said "maybe."
Later, Don was having dinner with the girl and Frank did stop by the table and said hello. Don responded "not now Frank, I'm busy."

The one with Billy Crystal is really good. Gets him talking about the early days and how his "friends" back in Brooklyn helped his early career and helped him get away with pissing people off.

The one with Deniro and Scorsese is OK. Haven't watched all of the others w/ guests I don't care about, but at least these two are worth watching, and each episode is under 10 minutes.
