Book to TV adaptations

I've noticed quite a few of you read the Silo book series or the Game of Thrones books when GOT was still airing. As someone who doesn't have a ton of time on my hands due to family obligations but enjoy watching the book to tv shows, what upcoming tv series do you recommend reading the books before the TV series starts? I wanted to start the Silo books since I'm sure it will be a while before the next season comes out but I saw that there are 9 books and not sure I can devote the time to read them. You all have amazing memories as well when comparing the differences between the show and the books. Do you guys just read the books right before the show starts?

I know this'll probably start a board argument, but I don't see the value in reading the books for shows anymore.
Nowadays, producers and directors actively tell actors not to read the characters they're playing because they're not planning on following the source material

I also love a book series because there is such a pay off when you like it knowing there are more to read.
That being said, what about a book to movie? I recently read Killers of the Flower Moon and it was phenomenal. The amount of research the author put in must have been insane. This will be a huge movie, won’t be released for a while yet so you have plenty of time to read it. He has other books done in a similar way so while it isn’t a series, you can read more of his work if you like that book. One has already been made into a movie (Lost City of Z) and his newest (The Wager) has been optioned by Scorsese I heard.

Hopefully you are a sci-fi fan.
Three Body Problem is coming to Netflix. Deep sci-fi trilogy about first contact with aliens. The author is Chinese so most of the characters are Chinese. The names can get confusing because there are a lot of characters. Fair warning, the show will be made by the GoT guys. Unlike GoT, the books are complete, so hopefully they can pull it off.
Foundation is a good show if you haven’t read the books. I watched the show first then read the novel. I don’t even know if I want to watch season 2.
Not a show, but they are adapting Project* Hail Mary (author also wrote The Martian) to a film starring Ryan Gosling. Highly recommend that book, in audiobook if you can. The narration makes it even better.
Pierce Brown, the author of the Red Rising series, has been teasing a show for years. No confirmation yet but recommend the series.

I like the book, but I have no idea how they can do this and not make it seem...ridiculous.
I think that one is a hard one to translate from page to visual

This may be my best option due to limited time I have. Thanks for the recommendations

It's really only 3 stories and they are very quick reads. When I heard about Silo and found out it was a book series I wanted to read it first. I started the day after the premier episodes and knocked them all out in about 3 weeks. Very good series.

Little House on the Prairie was a better show than a book.
Michael Landon as Charles Ingalls is the GOAT TV dad.

If done by HBO I think this could be a HUGE series.
Its perfectly set up for that format.

Why bother reading the book unless you really enjoyed the TV/Movie? Countless times I have seen people piss and moan because the "show" didn't do the books justice and it ruined the TV show/movie for them.
Example: Goblet of Fire is my favorite HP film but for those who read the book first it is typically rated very low. I did the audiobooks (when I had a daily Hour+ commute for work) and I enjoyed them both.

I never like to read the book(s) before seeing the movie or TV series adaptation b/c they can never do the book justice and I'm always disappointed.
But, if you see the movie/series first and love it, there's a good chance you'll love the book even more b/c there's so much more deal you get out of the book(s).

Kind of like you just said. While I do enjoy reading, I like the visualization even better. So you may be right in that I should watch the show/movie first and then the book so that when I read I have a visualization of what the character looks like

Sorry, meant to quote you on the statement of watching the movie/series first and then reading the book

Just two and half weeks until Lightbringer!

Foundation is incredible. Read this and the Robot series, and then stay far away from the Foundation tv series. It's nothing like the book

Case in point (probably the single most outstanding case):
Ender's Game. Fantastic book, thoughtful and intense, and the ending reveal is a mindfrick of the highest magnitude.
Movie is blah, and because of the nature of the two different media, it's impossible to pull off the ending. And if you make the mistake of watching it, it will spoil it, it just is unable to do it justice.
Because there's no way a film can replicate the "wait, WHAT?" moment that the book delivers.
