I really miss the old Essen theatre for some reason. I think it's because they had the Commando arcade game. I also miss the old Perkins theatre. I had a birthday party there once. We saw Last Action Hero. I also snuck into Alien 3 there which was the first R movie I ever saw.

What was the theater that showed independent films?

I wasn't in BR when it was around, but I definitely would have liked to go there vs. all the way to Canal Place Cinema.

I will admit... I went to a Rocky Horror midnight showing at the Essen theater...

My date was dressed up... it was interesting.

Grand Cinema use to show independent films about 10 years ago but they stopped. I wish B.R. had an independent film theater... When I lived in Dallas, we loved their independent theater off of Greenville...forgot the name of it.

Think you may be referring to Siegen. Was the only place to catch indies when I lived in BR.

I miss all of BR's now-defunct theaters: Broadmoor, Bon Marche and Bon Marche Twin, Cortana.

Even miss our old porn theater, The Regina, and the old University theater where I once watched Tales from the Hood.

Great memories.

So far the only old theater talked of in this threat is the The Regina, which turned into an x rated theater in it's later life.

The Istrouma theater was an old one in Baton Rouge....

The Dalton theater owners should be rich as hexx today as their father saved every poster, picture, etc items sent by the studios when showing a movie. He had the orginal King Kong, Gond with the Wind, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, etc posters.

The best theater of early Baton Rouge was the Paramount, I saw the Sound of Music there and many others.

The Gordon was downtown and I will always remember standing in line to see the Dirty Dozen when it came out.

The Robert E. Lee theater and its near 56 weeks of Patton was a place to see movies at one time.

The Broadmoor I can remember when that started to build it and then later added on to it, great place to see a movie before they cut the main room in to 2 screens. There was always a line to get in, but because it could hold so many, near everyone was able to get in 1st showing. The long I stood in line there was near 5 hours (humm trying to remember the movie, but it was in the late 60's) Saw Castle Keep there when it came out, the first r rated movie I saw.

University theater well i remember when it was built, but it was were I had some of my best movie experiances. My cousin and I went to see Jaws there when it came out, he had already seen in the day before. When it came to the scene where the head pops outs, he said watch this...
there were 2 college age girls in front of us and when that head popped out they both throw their cokes in the air...
1 landed on his shoulder and 1 in his lap, I still laugh to this day when I see that scene.

As a kid, my mind went to very dark places trying to figure out the double entendres of the movie titles advertised in the newspaper.

Good call.

I remember my YMCA summer camp walking there to see Ernest Goes to Camp. While there, remember seeing the poster for Full Metal Jacket.

Another long running movie there was the "Smokey and the Bandit" I seen it like 10 times. (nothing else to do at 13). ANother theater was the Bon Marche Theater behind the mall not the Cinema 12 one. They used to have the Shazam Saturday Matenees and I thing Batman as well. One other was the Paramount Theater next to the Regina.

The Old Paramount was downtown on Third Street and was so old it had box sets, and a presidental box. They took it down to build a parking lot?

humm duh

It was so old it was first called the Columbia Theatre and Martin Lally who blocked for Doc Fenton in 1908 worked there in the off season. The Columbia Theatre was taken down and rebuild in 1919 and then renamed the Parmount in 1937.
Columbia Theatre in Baton Rouge was the first theater to have isle lights.
The Regnia was on Plank Road, near Choctaw...
It was very old and a World War II theater. My father used to go to it, the Dalton and the Istrouma growing up.

The Dalton was on Dalton Street between North Acadian Thoughway.

The Paramount, Gordon, and Hart Theatres were all downtown. Saw many movies in these. The Robert E. Lee on Plank was one of the first multiple screen theatres in Baton Rouge and was very nice until North Baton Rouge became "North Baton Rouge."

The old Hart Theater just wasn't a great place to see a movie, I saw many a movie there like The Green Berets, Zardoz and a movie my sister picked to go see Georgy Girl (1966) etc..

Bad sceen, config, lighting, just had an odd feel and very, very dark when the lights were out.

An original Kong poster must be worth mucho dinero

I do not know, but form the number of movies I saw there and know the posters he had and form asking him about his collect in 1970-2 range the value of everything in todays dollars would be well north of 10 million.

Just think of these posters he had:
King Kong
Frankenstien
Dracula
Wizard of Oz
Captain Blood
Casablanca
Sgt. York
etc

Now remember he had all the lobby pictures, at least 3-4 of the different posters of each film. He had 4 in door frames and 4 out door, he had the wall poster also (but not as many).

So on King Kong a lone your talking 4 of the different style posters, and all original.

So well north of 10 million is a good figure.
