Dramatic-- Deliverance (even though he got an Oscar nod for Boogie Nights).
Comedic- Smokey and the Bandit
Any disagreement?

Reynolds is actually pretty good in a movie called Nickelodeon (about silent movies). But his co-star Ryan O'Neal is charmless and the film itself could easily stand getting 20 minutes cut.
He also did one of the first cop black comedies, Fuzz. For some reason it's little remembered today.
He's in a comedy western called Sam Whiskey that is entertaining.
In BR's very first TV series, Riverboat (1959), he's mostly just another young hunk helping the hero. But there is one scene, where he's eating dinner, where you see the self-deprecating smirk that would eventually make him a star.
Burt described his three year stint as Quint the blacksmith on Gunsmoke this way: "Somebody would call me a half breed then I'd stand around and watch Marshall Dillon come in and beat the guy up." The material forced him to be pretty somber, but in one episode (Chester needs money and gets Quint to hire him as a helper) you see Burt driven crazy by Chester's incompetence, and he gets exasperated in the James Garner manner. It's another sign of the stardom that would come later.

Of course loved him in Gator,Smokey and the Bandit.Sharky's Machine etc. I was really surprised at his turn in Best Friends with Goldie Hawn in the early 80's. He was very funny and did a great job in role I wouldn't have imagined him to be cast. That movie had a few laugh out loud moments for me. He was just a versatile, likeable actor.

No Jack Horner?
Dude was a filmmaker! He wasn't gonna make no shite on videotape!
You come into this thread and tell him the future?
That the future is videotape and not film?

Deliverance and Boogie Nights a tie for me. Smokey comedic. Ditto.
Oh, have you seen him in "Hooper?" Not his best, but I watch it now it then cause it was filmed in Tuscaloosa. Set was real with all the explosions, falling silos...it was an old hospital and adjacent buildings scheduled to be demolished, so the movie studio stepped in and offered to remove the grounds for free.

I'm sure many of his roles during his prime will get mentioned a lot and many are my favorites as well.
But he was really, REALLY good in The Last Movie Star
