Cabin Fever getting a remake, using the exact same 2002 script

Eli Roth’s 2002 horror comedy Cabin Fever is getting a remake, with the original movie’s writer-director Roth returning as executive producer. He won’t have to do much writing this time, though: The plan is to use the exact same Roth-Randy Pearlstein script that was shot in 2002, and with a cast already moved in, it puts the project on the fast track. Shooting begins this week in Portland, OR.
The new version will star Teen Wolf‘s Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Matthew Daddario and Nadine Crocker. Travis Zariwny (Intruder) is directing. Armory Films’ Chris Lemole and Tim Zajaros and Contend’s Evan Astrowsky will produce, and Armory and Pelican Point Media are financing. Roth will exec produce with Cassian Elwes, Ike and Jaclyn Ann Suri, and Peter Fruchtman.

The original Cabin Fever centered on a group of college students who rent a cabin in the woods to do some partying. That’s when they begin to fall victim to a flesh-eating virus and all hell breaks loose.
“Travis had an amazing vision for my original script, and as a scary movie fan I really wanted to see it. I almost see this like re-staging a play, and I’m excited to see what ideas Travis and the cast bring to it. They’re all fans of the original and want to make a film that’s a new classic and I believe they will,” said Roth.

This seems....unnecessary.

Agreed. I'm a fan of the original, but it's not that dated.

While it may be unnecessary this is the important part. If Roth is excited to see what someone else can do with his script it may be worth seeing.

sorta related
but I thought it would be kinda cool to have 2 directors take the exact same screenplay and not know anything about each other's projects and see what the films look like

I like that. Give Nolan the same script Burton had and see what we get

FIFY
This is the exact kind of movie that would be kind of cool with another attempt at the exact same script.
I like the original, but this seems alright especially with Roth on board. I mean, why not? It's horror, it's cheap to make, cheap to market, it could be surprisingly good.

No shite, Cabin Fever is literally one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I always list it in those threads on here. Such a terrible, awful, laughably bad movie in every way (one pair of tits notwithstanding).

PANCAKES!!!
This is still a requirement in the script though.
Just an incredible WTF moment. I had no idea whether to laugh or what.

I love the original. One of the most underrated horror movies out there.
And the ending with the old man.

So what you're saying is that a "new vision" of the exact same script isn't gonna reel you in to the theater?

I didn't mind the first one, but I didn't think it was particularly memorable. I don't have any excitement to see the same story over again.

Yeah, the original is not good. Why would I want to sit through a remake of the same exact thing?
I'm just not a huge fan of Roth in general. Hostel was a good concept, and enjoyable enough, but he's a bad copy of Tarantino.
