Liz Taylor was so beautiful and Paul Newman was at his most handsome in this movie. Plus the story was so original (based on the play). The entire cast was perfectly chosen.
So glad Hollywood hasn't remade this movie but if they do, who would you choose to replace Liz and Paul?
I could see Matthew McConaughey and Megan Fox.
Who do you think could play roles?

It’s been twice remade for television. The version with Jessica Lange as Maggie was pretty good.

My ex wife gave me two daughters and I love them. But had she given me a Son he would have been names Rhett Brick :last name:
My in between gave me a daughter ... her name is Maggie.
My wife gave me a Son. She agreed to go with Butler but not Rhett and she refused to go with Brick and instead his middle name is my name.
Okay, so the Newman, Taylor, Ives version is by far the finest movie version. I also saw it twice on Broadway.
My family calls me Big Daddy ..... I do like my peppermints and I hope I don't die from pancreatic cancer.

When I saw it on Broadway Kathleen Turner played Maggie the Cat and Charles Durning was Big Daddy. For the life of me I cannot remember who played Brick. I vaguely remember his face but not his name. It was in the 90s and if I remember correctly he was in a movie around that time with McCauley Culken but I can't remember his name. He did a horrible Southern accent I remember that very well.

For a balladeer by trade, Burl Ives gave a very convincing performance as Big Daddy.

Mendacity is one of my favorite words.
Sisterwoman, and her no neck monsters are like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Here are the pictures you should have posted.

Same here. I can still hear Burl Ives speech about it .... stuck with me forever.
Classic family issues that were rarely talked about back then but Tennessee Williams knew how to tell that kind of story.

Violet eyes, brunette with big tits and skinny ankles.
That's a winner in any man's book.

Was rewatching some of that on YouTube recently; Jessica Lange was damn smokin.
We watched that version in high school English class the year we supposedly read the play. For about 2 weeks we were walking around the halls imitating Rip Torn yelling about POON TANG!

One of my favorite movies. One of Newman's best performances.
No idea on who would play those roles today. Leo and Portman would be interesting I guess, but maybe too obvious.

Didnt think of DeCaprio. That would be a nice option as well.

Chris Pratt - he would excel at the bit of homespun comedy in the story and I would like to see him flexed in the drama part.
Rachel McAdams - capable of expressive charm, beauty, and vulnerability requisite for the role.

He played Big Daddy in this, and Rufus Hannassey in The Big Country in the same year, 1958. He won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in The Big Country. He plays a less sophisticated, but honorable man.
Here's one of his big scenes
His best scene in it would be a big spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen it.
If you haven't seen it, watch the trailer. If you have seen it, know the scene I'm talking about, and want to see it, here's the duel scene.
Jean Simmons looks great in this. Caroll Baker, who is normally oozing sex appeal, is too much of a b*tch in it to even be attractive. I didn't even recognize her the first time I saw it. It's really a well acted movie by everyone involved.
