I didn't think much about it when I first saw this movie but on the rewatch, I have some conclusions.

Eli Sunday: Piece of shite opportunist that cared for no one but himself (his church) at the end of the day. He was arguably more of an exploitive con man than Plainview because he didn't actually produce anything. No wonder Paul Sunday wanted to get the frick away from him.

Daniel Plainview was a piece of shite too but he wasn't always that way, his story was more tragic because acquired great wealth but essentially lost his soul in the end. Eli Sunday didn't have much of a soul to begin with.

Anyway, I love this movie for some reason.

God I want to punch him in his smug fricking face.

I irrationally hate Paul Dano. It's unfortunate, he can't help how he looks. Smug little frick.

Plainview lost his soul long before the end. I cheered when he beat up Eli in the mud. Paul Dano has the most punchable face in Hollywood and I always want to see him get punched. I can't even focus on his acting because I'm thinking about how much I want to punch him.

Same here, incredible film. To his credit though, Dano is extra douchey in TWBB. Little shite.

Don't want to punch him; I want to to "Why do you keep punching yourself?!? Why do keep punching yourself?!?"

Good character because you want to hate him more than a bad guy already!

Maybe because it's the best movie of the 21st century.
