Days of Thunder loophole I’ve never figured out

Rowdy asks Cole to drive his car at Daytona so Rowdy can keep his sponsor. If that’s the case, why does the car need the Mello Yellow sponsorship? Shouldn’t he be driving the Exxon car?

Is that a loophole or a plot hole?

Nobody drinks Mello Yellow, and Cole realized that too late.

Pretty sure Daytona was the first race of the year and mello yellow must have been rowdys new sponsor for that year.
Being that he got hurt the year before and there isnt much off time in between Nascar seasons

He didn’t race for Rowdy. He raced for himself. That wasn’t Rowdy’s car.

I dislike everything about nascar, but days of thunder is a big time guilty pleasure of mine.

Don’t overthink a Tony Scott film

Same here. My brother in law is an amateur racer, and he fricking hates this movie.

But thinking back, this could really go either way. There seems to be some contradictions in how it’s presented. So I don’t know. I suppose just see it however you want to. If he did race for Rowdy, I’m surprised they didn’t focus on it a little more by maybe at least showing rowdy watching from the hospital. In the scene where he agrees, he walks out and says tell Rowdy I’m sorry. So not a great job of emphasizing it.
51 was rowdys number.

Technically, Rowdy actually says he already lost his sponsor because they invested in him instead of the car.
I agree it's not very clear, but I believe Rowdy is hoping his sponsors will re-invest if the car has a good run at Daytona. That way Rowdy will have his ride waiting for him if he's ever healthy enough to drive again.

The REAL ? we need to debate is:
Are we Team Mello Yello or Team Superflo?

Is this the race where Goose dies? Or is that at the end of the movie?

A friend of mine paid me to write a paper for him in highschool about what he loved to do. I used the entire speech of controlling something that's out of control (he rode motorcycles) as the entirety of the paper.

There is a documentary on the making of this movie. Time well spent.
They actually put cameras on race cars and had them do qualifying. One of the cars apparently qualified for a race with a ton of cameras in it.
