Does the ending of The Wonder Years kind of piss anyone else off?

Spoilers obviously

It makes no sense to me why Kevin and Winnie didn't end up together plus tGOAT television father died soon there after. Never getting to see Kevin's children. The entire last season was just so depressing to me. I love the show but the way it ended just seemed wrong to me.

Thoughts?

ETA: FWIW, the entire series is on Netflix.

No, Kevin dodged a bullet from that bitch. Remember the Christmas episode when he went all out on a necklace or something like that, and Winnie got him a freaking Bread album? Cold.

It did piss me off that Jack died all of two years later. That was pretty heartbreaking to hear.

Glad the Wayner turned out ok though. He turned a corner by the end of the show.

That pissed me off more than Kevin and Winnie not ending up together. Jack was probably my favorite character in the entire show and he will always be the best television dad of all time to me.

Same. His character development was fun to watch.

It was an ending I did not expect. I was depressed about it for maybe a day afterwards. Then I moved on.

i think the only episode that was a downer to me was the one where Wayne's friend Wart comes home from the war. He gets all shook up at the football game when somebody starts to tease him like they did when he was back in school.

that was one of the last ones I remember watching on TV at the time the show was actually airing. But I mean I've seen them all now thanks to Netflix.

I guess the ending was okay but shows really don't ever end like you envision them anyway.

Best episode title ever: Private Butthead

its the one where Wayne wants to join the Army.

That one was really rough to watch because that guy had been the big stupid class clown and when he came back, he was totally different. The actor who played Wart did an incredible job in that episode.

The ending is perfect

It's a real world type ending and not a fantasy

The final monologue is legit

It was shocking. I figured they'd wind up together for sure. The worst part to he was the dad passing away.

That episode always gives me the chills. To a lesser extent, so does Private Butthead when Wayne gets rejected by the army. As big of a jerk as Wayne was at times, it was pretty tough to see him break down to his dad about constantly disappointing him. The second half of that show did a good job of developing Wayne like you said. Which isn't to say there weren't classic Wayne moments along the way

I wouldn't say it pissed me off, I'd say it bummed me out.

I carried a torch for one of my childhood crushes for years and years. We reconnected as adults and it was a trainwreck. She wasn't the person I thought she was, and she probably felt the same way about me. I wish we hadn't gotten back together so my fond memory of her would still be intact.

It's weird trying to watch that show when you're older. Just sad thinking how fast time goes by.
