The Company is a miniseries, but it was surprisingly good.

For anyone looking for cold war-ish books, check out the novels by Jason Matthews. They're Putin-era Russia, but with a lot of cold war history weaved in. Also a lot of substantive and accurate Russian culture reference, which isn't that surprising as he was a career operations officer and likely worked in soviet states.

Supposedly his first novel, Red Sparrow, has a script by Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle). Last I saw it was flirted with by Aronofsky and Fincher, and now might end up with Francis Lawrence.

I still can't believe someone hasn't jumped on an adaptation of The Charm School.

There is such a huge volume of solid espionage writing out there, and what does get to film to me seems like it does well. Surprised more don't make it to production in light of a rather bleak original content outlook for Hollywood.

The good Shepard was pretty solid, some thought it was slow but I liked it.

The Good Shepherd and Tinker Tailor were awkward at points but gave a good feel for the times.

Real Cold War issues were so slow to develop and often anti-climatic at their conclusion, not something Hollywood enjoys with their preference for nail biting drama.

'tinker, tailor, soldier, spy' was a great movie ... might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's certainly not a horrible film ...

'the lives of others' is a recent film that didn't get a lot of press ...

and, of course ...

Seven Days in May is a pretty good one.

I liked the British version of TTSP done in the 70s better than the recent movie version, but both are good. The British version of the third part of the trilogy is excellent as well. All of the Brit versions are on youtube (at least that's where I watched them).

Breach is up there for me.

That shite was tense as frick and as much as I used to hate Philipe, he's pretty badass in it.

Chris Connelly is also phenomenal.

Was coming here to pretty much say the same thing. Really good movie that kinda flew under the radar.
