Based on Piersall's autobiography, the film traces Piersall's rise from the sandlots of Waterbury, Connecticut, to the Boston Red Sox professional baseball team.

It's been a long, long time since I've seen the movie, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the movie made Piersall's father look a lot worse than he really was. I could be wrong though. Your point still stands though that little league parents can be pretty whacko.

JP on Letterman, 1980s:
"Here I am with nine kids, and I've been portrayed onscreen twice by a couple of f*gs"
The word was bleeped
DL: "For those of you who didn't hear Mr. Piersall, he said he's been portrayed twice by a couple of fine actors."
