He’s sitting down in every scene. He sounds mostly okay but something doesn’t seem right. He have a stroke or something?

I just finished episode 2 and was thinking the same thing. Off to google I go.

ETA:

All I found was two links to this thread and a bunch of nothin. He really has been sitting and chill in every scene this season so far.

Maybe he had a rectal procedure and had to sit on a donut for the filming of a few episodes. That probably wouldn’t be on google.

I hope he's okay. He's been great in everything from X-Files to L&0 to Flash (not to mention Broadway). The guy adds quality to everything he's in.

I’m 30 minutes into tonight’s episode, Joe’s had two decent size scenes and he hasn’t even stood up yet. Color me intrigued.

I was coming here to say this.

He seems lethargic too.

WTF?

Yeah, this is really weird. Just when I thought Joe would have to stand up, the Flash rescued him. Then at the end it’s Iris and Joe chilling on the couch.

So Joe’s no standing streak is 3 episodes strong.

Something is definitely up with Joe. He was sitting again when Cecada confronts him then after he knocks him out he is bound to a chair.

In addition to the constant sitting, his “aged” look, and slightly slurred speech, there was also a scene where he raised his hand and it appeared to be shaking.

The guy is from Virginia, and these episodes were shot in July. Maybe he is a Caps fan and was just going full Alexander Ovechkin, and partied too hard over the summer

It will probably have something to do with the show. Like the baby is some kind of meta and is draining the life out of Joe, or something.

I thought about that (and they could still eventually turn whatever it is into part of story but couldn’t with initial episodes), but it seems like they would have highlighted it somehow by showing him hiding some physical problem or other characters briefly mentioning something about Joe in this regard. Besides always sitting they have had his character get up & leave room all off screen and out of view of camera. He also does seem a little off and tired when talking, and I also noticed his hand shaking this past episode like someone earlier mentioned in this thread.

It also seems strange that if there is something wrong with him that it hasn’t been leaked or reported by now. If it does just end up being purely part storyline and not something really going on with the actor it has been just been oddly done 3 episodes in.

Fans of The Flash may have noticed that Joe West hasn't been charging into action much in Season 5, and there's a very good reason. According to TVLine, Jesse L. Martin "suffered a back injury" over the show's hiatus, and IGN has confirmed that the actor will be taking a leave of absence from the CW series for an undetermined length of time.

quote:

Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind The Flash, provided this statement on Martin's status: "Jesse Martin is taking a medical leave of absence from The Flash. We wish him a full and speedy recovery and look forward to his return as Detective Joe West." According to TVLine, which first reported the news, Joe's absence will be addressed on the show, although it has yet to be confirmed which episode will see Martin exit.

I wonder how they play that. Especially if Cecille is still around.
