Can't specefically answer your question, but Explosions In The Sky does most of the music for this film.

I seriously thought he was talking about the scence where they come running out of the tunnel in the Astrodome. Because I'm 99.999999999% sure thats the song that is play.

Not sure about the movie, but the instrumental piece on the series is "First Breath After Coma" by Explosions in the Sky.

It definitely was, my kids watched the movie 25 times. I can still hear it and I haven't seen it since Christmas 2007.
