Gal Gadot was almost cast as someone other than Wonder Woman

If not for her pregnancy back in 2011-12, she would have been cast as the evil Kryptonian Faora in Man of Steel, a role that eventually went to German actress Antje Traue.
So instead of playing a one off character in Superman's rebooted origin story, she will be playing one of the most famous comic book heroes of all-time.

Traue has a build far closer to Wonder Woman than Gadot does.

At the rate this movie is going I'm surprised they haven't recast Traue as Clark Kent solely based on someone from Warner stumbling on this picture:

I had my reservations when Gadot was first cast, as the Fast and the Furious was the only thing to go on... and she was a waif in those films, but I have come around to her casting and think she will blow it out the water and be one of the films highlights.

And is also 5'6....Gadot is a solid 5'10 plus. Not amazon height. Same with Carano (and I love Gina but she can't act). Gadot has filled out and is toned and not overtly muscular. It doesn't matter anyway... Gadot will be Wonder Woman whether accompanied by bitching or not.

She's no body builder, but she has improved for the role no question- and she's much classically prettier than Traue or Carano IMO. But the bottom line will be her performance, which insiders have been raving about.

Just did a movie with Gal. She is all of 5'10" and is pretty tone. She was great to the crew and seemed genuinely friendly.

And after seeing her interviewed, I think it is her warmth and personality that will make it work. Wonder Woman needs to be equal parts stone-cold warrior balanced with compassion and love. It is the essence of the character.

5'10" height is the only physical factor working for her - especially with such tall male leads. Put 5'8" male leads, and Traue or Carano would look fine, height wise.

I honestly can't say, as what I've seen Gina in has been terrible. But, that's true of Gadot, as well. I defer to the experts that Gadot is a better actress - but, then, so is Meryl Streep - we're not doing a WWII drama or Shakespere - comic book acting is a cliche for that very reason. I'd rather a convincing presence and work on the acting than try to pump up a 5'10", 118 pound stick thin model into a super hero she'll never convincingly portray.

I almost didn't watch the first one (I'm a Superman guy, too, baw). It was "okay". I liked it, but didn't love it.
But with Affleck as Batman and Gadot as WW?
No way in hell. I won't even watch trailers.

The casting is perfect. I don't understand the problem.
As for Gadot, why would Wonder Woman need to be muscular? I never got that. If she has superhero strength "muscles" aren't a benefit. Same thing I've always thought about Supes.

I am in agreement with Fun Bunch. It's been a while since I picked up a comic but I don't remember her being swole.
I have watched the animated series and the animated movies and she is usually just tall with no real muscle definition if I am not mistaken.
Hell is this the new super girl basically built like Gadot?

This is why Gina was perfect for the role. Wonder Woman is typically awkward sometimes but she's very warm and genuine at the same time. Gina fit that description perfectly.
Anyway, I like what I've been seeing out of Gal but I'm not sold on her yet. She's changed a lot but she needs more boobs and more body tone.
