Haven’t watched SNL in over a decade or more because it sucks. But I had to tune in last night for Nate Bargatze hosting it. I thought this skit was on point.

And there it is. SNL can write funny stuff, but for years, has chosen not to.

I think when they have stand up comedians they have them help write the skits. That one has Bargatze’s type humor all over it so it may say more about him than the current writers.

Getting rid of that annoying fat chick and anyone who portrayed Trump or Clinton was a great move.

It’ll go back though. As soon as election stuff gets going they’re gonna go back to sucking for the next few years. They can’t help themselves.

That was one of the funnier skits I’ve seen in a long time.

This is what people forget about SNL. There are always only a couple of funny skits in an episode. I've gone back on Peacock and watched episodes from all the classic casts: Farley, Ferrell, Murphy, whoever. 85% of those shows are clunkers. When was the last time you watched the whole "Cowbell" episode? There was maybe one or two other funny skits (I love The Continental). Nostalgia only lets us remember the great skits, not all the crap.

Adam Driver's Oil Baron skit is another example of them being able to do some funny stuff.

Abraham H. Parnassus is one of the funniest skits they’ve ever done IMO.

I love Bargatze so I may watch this episode at work this week.

You’re not wrong. I remember that even back in its heyday I would lose interest after weekend update.

That was funny, the football stuff and the end...but we of course, were the opposite of being different and changing, rather just stayed with, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.'

The Metric system wasn't invented/used yet...and we never changed from the beginning, just kept using what we brought over.

We simply adopted English Units as we had been using them and called them Customary Units, as was the customary use, which we still use today (basically the later Imperial system officially adopted by England in 1824.)

Who later changed was England, a slight variation of English units to the Imperial system in the 19th century (while the British were reforming their weights and measures in the 19th century, we just kept using units based on those discarded by the act of 1824)...then England switched to the metric system in the 20th century; though usage of the Imperial system is still common for some things in everyday UK.

In 1975, The U.S. made metric “the preferred system of weight and measure” (without officially abandoning the imperial system). Like soccer in the 70s it never caught on except in science and medicine, etc. We don't see the need to re-educate the populace. Not in 1776, not now.

Thanks, professor. What that skit needed was a long discussion on the metric system for context.

This 100%

People only remember the good skits. They forget how many don't work. Comedy Central always running best of episodes back in the day memory holed a lot of the crap.

I watched most of them live, all the way back to the OC and I could not disagree more. Never has every single skit been awesome, but they used to bat a hell of a lot higher than they do now, and many of today's shows have ZERO funny skits.

I would be stunned if Bargatze didn't write this sketch.

ETA: The sketch where they are on the plane discussing occupations was also pretty hilarious but I feel like it was cut short.

Monologue

Thought his monologue was great as well. Nice 9 minute set that perfectly shows off his style.
