Googling “Movies from (year)” is really odd

In that it’s completely broken. I was trying to refresh my memory for an experiment I’m doing which is something I’ll post some other time.
Anyway, I google “movies from 2018” and 99.9% of the results were either low budget slop no one has ever heard of or tv shows.
I legit didnt see anything that made over $5,000,000 in box office.
I spit checked a few other years and always the same thing with movies that no one has ever heard of.
I had to go to Box Office Mojo to look up what normal movies came out.
This feels like some weird dystopian thing that feels like google is lying about history

Maybe try qualifying your search terms?

The algorithm isn't neutral, I'll grant you that.

Things like Grok, ChatGpt are quickly replacing search engines..
You search what you want and you get a straight answer. Grok, ChatGpt are light years ahead of google.

I have heard others make similar observations on other type of topics & questions. It is probably the inability AI to truly understand such a simple matter. That is exactly why I am not too worried about the AI replacing everybody at work scare. Humans will always be required to recheck (verify) data and provide a final edit on reports.

Not a huge improvement. I want a list of major movies. Not just top 10.
I can see what Google is doing. It’s sourcing from Netflix and Amazon Prime and searching 2018.
It’s just real odd

If I employ 100 people to research and prepare reports, but I can just use AI to do that and retain 5 of my smartest to review/edit them, AI has still eliminated 95% of that workforce.

All you have to do is google IMDb movies from x year and boom, takes you right to every movie from that year and you can filter the list by different criteria like dollars generated, etc.

That you have to double check against a search engine. LLMs are not nearly dependable enough yet for anything that has consequence.

To be fair, the OP is about as unserious and inconsequential as it gets, in the context of your concerns.

also if you click the AI tab on the google results it actually does a pretty good job at listing movies from 2018 compared to the search engine.

That’s your fault. Since 2018 was after the 90’s, it wasn’t a real year.
