Such a great set of movies. Grumpier old men is on now. Reminds me of my Dad, who would laugh hysterically throughout either movie…probably reminded him of his dad.
A treasure trove of one liners

Matthau and Lemon are such a perfect combination
They play off each other perfectly .
I will die on this particular hill.. the first like 40 minutes of Odd couple 2 is one of the funniest bits of any movie ever to me. It’s so quotable and has me in tears every single time.

Without a doubt. Lemon and Matthau are perfect together. And Burgess Meredith is the absolute best.

Burgess Meredith is the absolute best.
in it he sang a sweet lullaby to his granddaughter, got laid, had a touching death scene and memorable funeral service, and in between delivered one of the greatest monologues in Hollywood history:

They really don’t make movies like this anymore. A good comedy that has charm.

For some reason I watched these movies a lot growing up.. maybe it was just always on HBO.. but they kind of defined what I thought the northern states were all about. Fishing , drinking, ice fishing, small town shenanigans, etc..
When I started traveling for work to the wisconsin and Michigan places , I realized they got it right. As soon as I quoted this movie and wanted to try ice fishing everyone wanted to bring me.
Love these films. Love the actors. I kind of like ice fishing for about 30 minutes. Haha

Hell I even like Out to Sea. They had such great rapport and it was so enjoyable

My Dad passed away a bit over a year ago and one of my favorite random memories of him was exactly as you described…laughing uncontrollably watching Grumpy Old Men.

Love these movies.
quote:My niece and nephews grew up in Anchorage. My brother was a petroleum engineer who worked for the dept. of Interior up there. After they were grown, my niece and one nephew moved to the lower 48. The youngest nephew still lives up there. He used to ice fish out of his brother-in-law's shack and drink with him, but has his own shack now. I want to go up there in the winter and fish with him.

Grandpa was the best character. I love when the daughter is freaking out that her kid swallowed a quarter. Grandpa is like kids swallow things all the time not to worry. Now if they shite out 2 dimes and a nickel, I would start worrying,.
