I thought he was a radar tech in Patton?

ETA: Holy crap. I could have sworn he was in Patton.

It's crazy how 'Pocalypse is '79, but SW is '77...and Ford is just a random guy in 'Pocalypse.

True...but I want to say that these two were shot nearly back to back...it's just that SW came out before Apocalypse Now.

Looking at it, principal photography for AN ended on May 21 of 1977. SW opened on May 25th of '77. Kinda' cool.

See, it makes more sense he is in that (Even though it came out before SW). And he had a big role too. he was the bad guy.

Coppola and Lucas were good buddies back then - Ford got pulled into that circle - literally because he worked between acting jobs doing odd jobs (like building a doghouse for Lucas) during that time.

As far as the Patton confusion, I think I can resolve it - and, yes, it is Blade Runner related (sort of).

Morgan Paull played Patton's aide in Patton:

He looks and sounds remarkably like Harrison Ford. (And although Paull passed away in 2012, Ford is actually more than 2 years older.)

In fact, because of that, Ridley Scott hired him to do the casting reads with all the potential Rachels in Blade Runner. They had such a good working relationship, Paull was hired to play the Blade Runner cop Holden doing the first V-K test on Leon at the beginning of the film.

So, that's why one might mistakenly think that Harrison Ford was in Patton.

I was probably the perfect person on the M/TV board to fix that for you, Pectus - those are my 2 favorite films.

There is a whole mythology surrounding the making of AN! - between the problems on set, Brando, funding, the delays - etc.

It's a miracle it ever got completed.

Community even had a great parody episode of Apocolypse now. In season 3 I believe.

Some people died on the set early on and Keitel was the lead instead of Sheen but he wasn't conveying the character the way Coppola wanted and yeah Brando showed up with a bald head overweight and kept spouting T.S. Eliott and Shakespeare instead of his lines.
