HBO is developing a limited series based on the Gillian Flynn novel “Dark Places,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Flynn will serve as co-creator, writer, and co-showrunner on the project and holds the rights to the novel. Brett Johnson will also serve as co-showrunner, co-creator and writer, with Guerrin Gardner also credited as co-creator and writer. Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity of Blue Marble Pictures will executive produce along with Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi of Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment.

I never saw the movie adaptation but HBO did an excellent job with Flynn's book, Sharp Objects.

it's been a while but is this the one with Charlize Theron? if so, i saw it, but it was much more forgettable than Sharp Objects or Gone Girl.

Good, not great, but worth a watch. I think a mini series would do much better, especially since it's HBO. Flynn is probably the most overrated writer on the planet for me (mainly Gone Girl). I absolutely despise Gone Girl. I know I'm in the minority there but I just hated the cheap trick/gotcha part of it. Very predictable and lame, I never understood why people went crazy over it. One of the few instances where the movie is better than the book.

I remember us civilly going at it a bit in the in season thread because this one drove me crazy too. It was well made and Amy Adams was great but I really didn't like the story. Probably the most forgettable HBO mini series in recent memory. Just had too many episodes that didn't move the story forward at all. You literally could have skipped 2-3 episodes in the middle and picked back up and not skipped a beat.

I say all that to say that I will definitely watch this Haven't read this but I didn't even realize Dark Places was based off one of her books. As far as crime and mystery goes, there are very few shows that HBO has failed at so it'd be hard not to give this a go.
