Help me understand Howard Hamlin being a bad guy

Dude seems straight up professional, successful, and a symbol of hard work over time paying off.
I can’t get on board disgracing him by Sliippin Jimmy. Than him being shot in cold blood. Prob the only real man on the show. Prob represents 90% of the OT.

And Hamlin was a smug douche, but he wasn’t a bad guy really. And he got completely fricked over for almost no reason whatsoever.

Howard was never portrayed as a bad guy. He was one of the only good guys throughout. A bit douchy but never a bad guy.

It is worth throwing in that we never saw what caused he and his wife to be so estranged. It’s possible that he was a complete a-hole in his life before the show started, as it’s pretty hard to climb that high without being one. But, he had definitely changed his ways by the time the show timeline started.

I think that was kind of the point. That’s the greatness of the writing/story. You know the main characters are bad people but you still end up rooting for them.
