I watched Spider-Man 2 last night for the first time in years, and had completely forgotten about Raimi going full-on Evil Dead in this scene. I rewound and rewatched it four times, just incredible horror imagery and one of the best scenes ever in a comic book movie IMO.

Although, I wish Bruce Campbell's cameo was as the chainsaw doctor instead of the theater usher, but that might have been too on the nose.

Doc Ock - Horror Hospital

I'm looking forward to Doctor Strange 2 even more now, hopefully he has the creative liberty to cut loose with the Raimi-isms in the MCU.

Thank you for posting that. I rarely see that scene listed in any "best of" superhero lists.

Molina and Keaton teaming up as Doc Ock and Vulture would be amazing.

In the promotion for the movie, Campbell bragged that he's the character who defeats Spider-Man. Which he did.

This was a great scene. SM2 also had the best superhero fight scene of any movie in the scene where SM and DO are battling it out on the side of the building. It is expertly shot, paced and executed. You can see every point of action, because he doesn't rely on modern editing tricks of fast edits to hide the action. The cleverness of the use of powers coupled with the fight choreography was absolutes superb.

ETA: Raimi is also why Dr Strange is THE Marvel movie to be excited about. He's a great director, and he will bring the horror element that DS requires.

I remember watching the first Spiderman and being so excited that Sam Raimi directed. That final fight between Spidey and the Goblin was similar to the descriptions here about the fight in II.

I've always had this one in my top five comic book movies. It just nails the feel of a comic book movie IMO, and Doc Oc was a great villain. It also expounded upon the good things from Spiderman and reigned in the potential to be overly ridiculous (like Spiderman 3). It's the perfect mix of action, cheese, suspense, drama, etc.

It's been forever since I've sat and watched the entire thing in one sitting, but if it's on TV I'll usually stop in and watch it for a little bit. It's awesome.

Raimi nailed Spider-Man 1 and 2, neither film get the credit they deserve. Dafoe and Molina were both equally fantastic villains.

I was disappointed with Spider-Man 2. It's well shot and well acted but the writing was too cheesy.

I didn't like how sympathetic they made Doc Oc as a villain, especially after the hospital scene set him up to be capable of anything.

"Well Doc, your wife is dead, your career is ruined, you're now fused with deadly AI robotic arms - what are you going to do next?"

"Recreate my experiment!"

Just seemed small potatoes, and he runs around doing Harry's bidding like a little bitch.

I really hated Peter's identity being revealed to every character and half of New York.

Eh, I don't see an issue with it, it's perfectly fitting.

It was his life's work, his singular focus. He was completely convinced that he was right and couldn't have made a mistake. His hubris (along with the AI) causing a good man to become a criminal is a big reason why he was a great villain.
