How I know the president in Independence Day was Republican

Rarely does Hollywood ever make the good guy president a Republican. However, I can say with 95% certainty that the president in Independence Day was Republican. How? Simple, really.
Will Smith's girlfriend told the president's wife that she "voted for the other guy." 95% of black people vote Democrat, so there is a 95% chance that the Will Smith's girlfriend voted for the Democratic candidate, who obviously lost.
So clearly even Hollywood knows that when shite hits the fan, you want a Republican in office.

President Whitmore was also a decorated soldier. Not to say ALL members of the military are Republicans, just the vast majority.

Most military members are fairly apolitical, IME. Especially the junior enlisted, who by and large don't give a frick about politics.

Or maybe since she clearly hated that the military sucked up all of Will's life she didn't want an Iraq war vet she was worried would get her man dragged into a war.
most dudes I know that actually went over and served dislike both parties and think they are full of shite. This especially goes for Repubs b/c there are so many Chicken Hawks.
I'd say they mostly support Ron Paul and other Libertarians who want to stay out of other countries business. You can call RP a Republican if you want but its pretty clear the only reason he has an R next to his name is b/c he lives in Texas and wants the party machine to fund his political career.
