This is the worst thread on the M/TV board in quite some time. Luke Dunphy is one of the best characters on tv.

Any of the "actors" not named Shailene Woodley on The Secret Life of the American Teenager. I seriously don't know how they even made it in the door to audition. How that show can ever be taken seriously with the terrible acting and script writing is beyond me.
And the kid that plays Carl on The Walking Dead is pretty bad.

You're in the minority with this on this board, but I am completely with you...Luke is fricking awful. Manny sucks, but it's the character that sucks, not the actor.
I agree that Lilly is terrible too, but she's 3 or 4, so I expect her to. Luke is by far the worst (in terms of the actual actors) on the show.

Let me clarify. I think they both kinda suck, but the character annoys me more than the kid.
With Luke it's the opposite...I want to like Luke as a character (and I do), but the kid playing him makes me want to kick baby seals.

How anyone can be this nitpicky about a hilarious show is beyond me. That show is gold, quit trying to reach and find something wrong with it.

Luke has grown on me quite a bit over the course of the show. I think the kid that plays him does a pretty good job of acting like a total moron even though he's the polar opposite of Luke irl.
I can't stand the new Lilly, it's like they went out with the goal of finding the ugliest asian baby they could and put it on tv.

To be honest, I thought I was posting something that was going to be unanimous. So wrong.
Then again, I don't watch that Two and a Half Men or that show about the nerds, whatever the frick that's called. And I didn't watch Third Rock From the Sun, either.

Observations:
Luke is acted just how they write him; everything they do with him is crafted around his idiocy, and the kid has perfect pacing and timing-- it makes the idiocy of the character convincing, and hence, has an annoying quality that's pushed on the actor.
Manny is sort of the flip side of it; he's written to be the most Niles-like character on television, very successfully-- which has an annoying quality that's pushed on the actor as well. I don't think his timing is as good, and he's not as convincing, but he's not a terrible actor. It's a terrible part.
In terms of bad acting on the show, the little redheaded guy who plays Cam's boy-toy is the worst. It's not just that they write the character as an extended gay joke, but he has terrible rapport with Ed O'Neil, and you can't buy into the idea that he's related to any of his actual family (Long, O'Neil, or his sister)-- there really isn't anything about the character that isn't an extension of the Cam character that is remotely good.

It's a show like the office in mockumentary style so they're not supposed to time everything perfectly, they're supposed to act like kids. I think they do a good job.
