So that was it?
-Ruth sees the black SUV sitting in her yard, so she just casually gets out unarmed and walks up to it?
-WTF was point of the car crash. They tease it at the beginning of the season, and they flip three times and all just walk away.
-And the kid killing the PI just sets up new problems. The PI, I guess, was back on the Chicago PD. So he didn’t tell anyone what he was working or where he was going or what he discovered. And with Ruth gone, there’s no one to launder money at the casino, so theoretically wouldn’t Marty have to stay and do it?
I thought it was a good series, great at times. Especially the first two seasons. Even Season 3, the last two episodes were great. The one where Wendy gives up Ben was gut-wrenching.
Season 4 was just stupid. Marty going to Mexico to “run” the cartel, I mean WTF. Two bright spots: John Boy Walton was pretty good, and the Ruth daydream with all the dead Langmores was good. That’s the way it should’ve ended. The Byrdes all die the car crash and Ruth sitting on top of the trailer with all the dead Langmores and old boy playing Angel From Montgomery.

One of the worst endings of all time and makes the overall show just good. That’s it.

Yeah the car crash was absolutely pointless.

Season 4 was horrible the whole way through. I never made it thru Game of Thrones but this has to be a somewhat comparable level of disappointment after so much promise

Nobody catching a scratch in that car crash was almost as bad as the one bullet wound in the Snell’s 200 round road massacre.

A lot of the show was pointless. Characters, whole story lines that never meant anything in the long run. I did like the very last scene however. Also, the car crash was basically meant to show that the Byrds are untouchable. Deep huh.

The car crash wasn't pointless. It was included for the symbolism, and it was even explained directly in the dialogue of the show. Are any of you actually listening to the characters while watching the show?
After the car crash, Wendy and the cartel minister discuss the crash. The minister says, “It’s not healthy to be around so much death. How many times does God have to point at you before you take notice? I believe that accident was your last warning.”
Wendy replies, "Oh, no. It's an assurance that we're gonna make it out alive."
The car crash is symbolic of the entire show. The Byrdes get themselves into crazy, terrible situations, but they always emerge unscathed. This concept is again reiterated at the very end when Wendy tells Melvin that the rich and powerful will always prevail.

This was my biggest complaint. This whole season has been about how Ruth has outsmarted everybody and been two steps ahead.
She kills a mob boss’ son and knows how the heat is on and just casually puts her car in park and walks up to a black SUV in her driveway?

Ending sucked
After ruth got her felonies cleared, she should have immediately bought a pistol to have on her at all times and a rifle nearby

Yeah, the ending kinda sucked. And I wasn't as high on the show in the first place before S4P2 as it seems like everyone else is.

It’s lazy writing
I didn't say it was good writing or that it wasn't lazy, I just said the writers clearly had a reason for including the car crash and the characters even discussed the purpose of the scene.

This happens far too often with shows these days. These shows develop amazing arcs and the people behind get cute at the very end. You don’t NEED a twist at the end.

I mean the show was very detached from reality when it came to how drug cartels actually operate. The fact that they had Javi waltzing around Missouri carrying out hits personally with little to no protection only to be ambushed by Ruth is so absurd it’s that it pushes the show from a crime drama into pure fantasy. Then to take care of a recovered drug addict middle aged woman they send a single sicario to slowly drive into her drive way and essentially announce his presence so he can get shot from the roof? They truly are the best I suppose I can see why the FBI took them so seriously.

The best scene in the entire show had to be John Boy and Ruth at the hotel.

The scalp to hang on the wall for the show to end with gravitas should have been Wendy’s not Ruth’s. Seemed like the arcs were heading that way for both characters but then changed direction mid-air and went with Wendy never really getting her comeuppance and Ruth’s redemption story just wasted bandwidth.

I enjoyed the series, but glad that it's over. There's just no way I could have continued as it kept getting too far fetched. But again I enjoyed it.
Ben's episodes were absolutely hard to watch. He died because he was mentally ill, that's it. He was right about everything. One of the only "innocent" people in the series, though Ruth was arguably innocent, a victim of a shitty life.

This. It needed the priest character to make the comment “but you don’t have a scratch”. That tied it up as symbolism or foreshadowing. These people are gonna blunder along unhurt but destroy all in their wake. Jonah becoming a killer just solidifies that.
I too did not like the ending. If you are gonna go all out and the Byrds get away. Then continue that and make them use the brother to kill the sister (cartel leaders).
Ruth’s death was tough to buy. Many situations were. Why are these people involved in the most evil shite, never armed?
Ruth? Is there anyone in the US IRL who has a casino license but does not own a gun. Marty too. I’m probably not gonna outduel the cartel but I’m gonna defend myself.

Bump.
Just finished the series.
WTF with that ending?
Echoing others' thoughts. Ruth just accepts death after everything she's been through? every other time she felt threatened, she grabbed that shotgun or rifle.
This show is full of what the board calls "boss bitches"
Wendy
Ruth
Darlene
Helen
The fbi chick
the fbi chick's female boss
the Navarro woman
a lot of complications were caused by the females in marty's life.
also, the body count in this little hick town may not rival banshee or yellowstone but, it comes close.
a shite load of people died as a result of the byrdes coming to town and they just walk away?
in the end, Rachel and Three end up with the land and the casino?
The season should have ended with the car crash.
The Byrdes all die the car crash and Ruth sitting on top of the trailer with all the dead Langmores and old boy playing Angel From Montgomery.
