That's honestly better than I was expecting. Its not good, dont get me wrong, but not terrible either. And plenty of time left to go even higher

Will the Force be with Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu at the box office?

If prerelease tracking is right, the Jon Favreau-directed movie — a continuation of his Disney+ series The Mandalorian — will open in the $80 million range at the domestic box office over the long, four-day Memorial Day weekend, according to sources with access to the data. That’s in line with expectations from Lucasfilm and Disney, according to insiders.

While it is the first Star Wars film on the big screen since COVID, it doesn’t face the same pressure that a title in the core franchise would, such as 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which opened to $177.3 million. Lucasfilm also has next year’s Star Wars: Starfighter on the docket, from director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Gosling.

Last year’s Memorial Day tentpole was the Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, which debuted to $79 million. In 2018, Solo: A Star Wars Story — a prequel spin-off — opened to $84 million domestically over the three-day Memorial Day weekend and $104 million for the four days.

The marketing campaign for Mandalorian and Grogu will go into overdrive on May the 4th, the unofficial Star Wars holiday. Among other offerings, Lucasfilm will show 25 minutes of footage of The Mandalorian and the Grogu in select Imax theaters across the globe.

This is some positive news, and boy does Lucasfilm need some

It has been tracking between 70-85, with most saying 70-71

So 80 is moving in the right direction

Its not good,
The general estimate moving up 9 million won't save jobs, but Disney is desperate for a Lucasfilm win. . .so they will tke it

I knew Star Wars apathy was bad, but I’m still surprised the Pedro & Dobby estimates are less than 2018’s So Low: A Star Wars Box Office Story.

I don't go to the movies very often, but I might go see this one opening weekend.

It tracking for 24 million less than Solo is not great Bob. What kind of legs does this movie really have?

The same theaters that saw an R rated biopic and a plastic doll brand both cross the $1 billion box office?

“But muh covaids!”
I thought the Disney sycophants had finally moved on from that excuse.

Are we really pretending Barbenheimer (brilliant marketing BTW drove that) isn't the exception these days?

Not terrible, but if they had never done season 3 and released this movie 2 years ago, it would have been the highest grossing film of the decade.

But then we wouldn't have yet another invincible girl boss.

We could talk about how even the video game IPs have successful and sustainable film series this decade.

If they can thrive in this environment, why shouldn’t Star Wars?

Someone finally put their foot down over there and kept the budget down (according to reports to this point, at least, and keep in mind - that's relative to the money they usually light on fire for these things and then pray).

I didn't have, "Disney finally develops some fiscal discipline and makes money on one of the films from their tentpole franchises " on my 2026 Bingo card.

That would be a disaster for Disney.

First release in I can’t remember how long and it opens to less than Solo.

And that’s a Memorial Day four day weekend projection

Yeah, but this is a 4 day weekend. That's actually not that great.

Minecraft?

I dont think Uncharted or Borderlands are getting a sequel any time soon (although uncharted was decent).

Jurassic World is a fair comparison. It had a $92 million opening in July.

Mission Impossible did $64 million in May.

Superman did $125 million in July.

How to Train your Dragon did $84 million in June.

I don't know but I'd be willing to bet he's on the MSB calling LeBron LeTurd, LeRetard, LeBitch, etc.

You get it? He's replaced Bron with Turd. it's hilarious.

You are being intentionally obtuse, but Mario and Sonic are doing fine as well.

If those can bring in an audience, surely star wars can too. Time will tell how the box office compares.
