Just discovered this was on Netflix currently, (last time I looked for it it was only for rent)

Such a great movie, I still can’t believe it didn’t get more press when it came out given the cast, I first heard of it while watching clips from the Big Short on YouTube. Great look at the financial crisis inside a big bank. Paul Bettany Jeremy Irons and Spacey are all awesome. Top 5 MWADS 2010s for me.

the financial crisi

I remember being in the student union building in college the moment Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy. Felt for moment that no one was safe from the poor house.

Fast-forward to 2016, and The Big Short was too stomach churning to enjoy. All the talk in the movie about the trillions of dollars tied up in toxic assets had me in cold sweats just like it was 2007-2008 all over again.

All 3 of us posted in that thread that we found it watching Big Short clips

I do remember discussing it with SFP, knew him and others on here were fans, This thread is meant like a PSA since i hadn’t seen it in a while and was stoked to find in on Netflix

Being in corporate America for 20+ years and an audit for some of those; this meeting is about as close to Health corporate America and management escalation really works. Fantastic movie

First watched in my senior Econ class in college (2012). Professor told us it was the most accurate representation of the financial crisis we’d probably ever see. Aside from being a great movie for anyone interested in the subject, that’s always stuck with me.

Top 5 movie for me. So many great scenes including, “so, you’re a rocket scientist”. Jeremy Irons was phenomenal.

I hate to break it to that person but guarantee there’s a lot more and a lot worse swear words being said on actual trading desk at a bank like that

I'd happily tank my own career for a $1 million bonus like those traders had to do at the end with the fire-sale

You jerkwads have me rewatching it again right now.

Why is this movie, that should be boring, so good?

I would guess the constant tension and that it’s very Efficient there’s hardly a wasted word or moment.

Good acting centered around compelling writing.

It also is kind of got anti-Fincher-ness, where it's well paced but not overly janky with a lot of cuts. More of a classic and methodical style of tension-building that just ties in well with the writing and acting.

Crazy that so many are not only working at 11 pm+ but also having to grind away at complex details, and they do a great job of looking tired but peaked by the circumstances.

ETA: 2:15 am. No 2:16 am.

To add to my last post, it's also the little details. I'm rewatching the Senior Partners meeting and the little part where Eric is worried and looks over to Demi Moore and it cuts to the CEO and he notices and goes "you're speaking to me, Mr. Sullivan".

Just really simple but effective stuff.

Can you imagine being an admin assistant or even a director (which from what I’ve seen are mostly fairly normal people albeit at a high level) and getting a call at 2:30 am to come into the office, appearance expected perfectly??

Sam, Kevin Spacey’s role, great role, openly telling his boss and the CEO frick You because he can.

Even the damn elevator scene with Demi Moore and that guy…the cleaning lady.
