Now we're talking!

“I'm also working on a TV limited series about the Siege of Malta, which is an incredible story, and there's only one place to film that, I mean, in Malta. Because that's where it happened, at these fortresses where 700 knights defended Malta against an onslaught from the Turkish and Suleiman sent 40,000 men and ships and, wow, the knights won. So, it's a pretty crazy, great story,” he told Movieweb.

The Great Siege of 1565

The Ottoman Empire, under Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, sought to capture the island of Malta, which was strategically located in the Mediterranean. Defending Malta were the Knights of St. John, an elite military order, alongside the Maltese. The siege, which lasted from May to September, saw brutal fighting, with the Ottomans using overwhelming force and numbers. Despite being vastly outnumbered, the defenders held firm, using their fortress city of Birgu and the stronghold of Fort St. Elmo to great effect.

Ultimately, the Ottomans were forced to withdraw after suffering heavy losses, marking a turning point in the Mediterranean struggle between Christian and Muslim forces. The victory bolstered European morale and solidified the Knights’ reputation as defenders of Christendom.

would probably be an awesome movie. I love big medieval battle scenes

no one, i mean no one, is giving Mel Gibson money to make a movie about crusader knights fighting muslim invaders. Not in 2024.

It says limited series. That’s a lot different than movie. The former could be funded and successful, the latter not so much.

Asa Kent Jennings (c. 1877–1933) was a Methodist pastor from upstate New York and a member of the YMCA.

In 1922, he commanded the evacuation of 350,000 helpless Christian refugees from the shores of Smyrna (today Izmir) in Turkey following the Great Fire of Smyrna. For his work, Greece awarded Jennings its highest civilian honour, the Order of the Redeemer, and the highest war honour, the medal of Military Merit.

In 1945, MGM Studios made a 10-minute short film based on the life of Asa Jennings.

In 2022, a documentary featuring Asa K. Jennings and his heroic efforts was produced by Mike Damergis. Smyrna - Paradise is Burning, The Asa K. Jennings story, was awarded Best Historical Film by Cannes World Film Festival (May)

At first I was simply going to say don't expect a biopic of this guy & link that MGM short, which I saw a few years ago.

Then I looked up the guy Jennings, & the voices in my head told me to include more info about him & that recent doc, which I'd never heard of before.

A few years ago I heard half the production money in H'wood comes from China or the Arabs. That's why the villains were changed in The Sum of All Fears.

He's been talking about this for years. He went into it on that directors round table with Oliver Stone, Denzel and two other directors i don't know.
