Amazing how good she can look when they're not intentionally making her look plain.

Squirrel Girl was in the New Warriors?
Also, I forget her history, but isn't she a mutant? Or did that get retconned somewhere for licensing reason? I don't think she's ever really been associated with the X-Men, more of an Avengers periphery character, but always thought she was a mutant.

I think you missed the point of this thread.

LOL Squirrel Girl. If you're going to showcase silly characters then you might as well put Slapstick on these shows too.

Squirrel Girl is the original "Mary Sue". That's actually one of her powers; she has the ability to defeat enemies that should be able to "one shot" her.
She's also Danielle Cage's babysitter in the comics.

She's not a Mary Sue. Like, at all. That's a complete misuse of the term, so let's review...
Now, Squirrel Girl is not fanfic, is not an idealized version of the author nor is a stand-in for the audience, and does not exist for wish fulfillment. She is a parody. The fact she can defeat any character in the Marvel Universe, but only off panel, is not really wish fulfillment as she's not the baddest arse on the block, it is a running joke about the power of silliness defeating the rules of the established universe. And no one dreams of talking to squirrels.
If we're gonna deride a character, at least do it right. Also, she's funny as hell. So many puns.

Not deriding the character at all. I like it.

The folks at io9 (Deadspin for sci-fi and geek culture) are flipping out over this. They have a serious boner for the character. Seems like good casting: she's a decent comedienne, likable and easy on the eyes.
