It seems like every couple of months a new planet that could sustain life is found some 100 light years away.

I would absolutely love seeing a film that takes place in the future where us earthlings can actually travel fast enough to send a group of people to check out some of these planets and see what they are like.

Here is an article on the most recent planet discovery that has my imagination running.

Buisness Insider

Can anyone recommend any movies where this is the plot or know of any movies being made in the near future where this is the plot?

Movies similar to interstellar but more focused on the earth exploration and findings (an hopefully interactions with humans on other planets) than the different dimensions and wormhole stuff

Director's cut of Caddyshack II. The theatrical edit removed all of the space travel.

I love that genre too. Recently I saw and enjoyed Ad Astra and Europa Report. Admittedly those are more space exploration oriented but they are enjoyable nonetheless.

You already mentioned Interstellar which is one of my favorites. There's also several in the creepy/horror genre starting with the Alien series, but I'm assuming that's not really what you're after.

I always thought Prometheus was more of a space exploration movie with horror elements than a horror movie.

I saw Prometheus in Imax and the initial exploration scenes were mindblowing.

There was a series along time ago called Earth 2. I don't know if it's on netflix or not. Might be able to stream on firestick.

I wrote one about the journey.

Takes place over a generation. People were selected to travel at an amazing speed, but even then..it would still take 70 years.

So these people leave on a ship that is intended to be a type of village. many wives are pregnant, or can become. Im not a fan of the overused "incubation chamber sleep pod" stuff. Sorta a copout to what could be an interesting story.

Doctors are onboard, seedbank/agriculture and the children will be taught how to repair, maintain and pilot this ship, basic medicine (some more advanced depending), etc. Skillsets and education.

They eventually reach this new world, in devastation they find ruins. in those years it's already been basically destroyed by its inhabitants through a major war.

The crew then make a hard decision of returning home, hoping the world they had always heard of was still there,..or just traveling and hoping to find a new one. for their children and children's children, etc. Leading to massive conflicts, which is compromised on when they agree to travel home, but plan a longer flight plan which allows searches along the way.

And if I decide to write a sequel..they've aquired some stowaways upon departure.

Unfortunately not yet, I still need to do some rewrites that help build certain characters that I like more.

And come up with a better title. Right now its "The Seed of Sorrow". Which was a take on:

“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death." (2 Corinthians 7:10).
