Anybody watch Nefarious? Playing in theaters now. Convicted serial killer up for execution interviewed for sanity by atheist psychologist. Turns out killer may be inhabited by demon. I haven't seen it but tempted. Rotten Tomatoes: Critics +25% Audience +97% which is promising. Anybody watch it? Any comments?

going today at 4pm.

It's a prequel to some novels by conservative talk show host Steve Deace. That's why it gets negative ratings from critics.

I enjoyed 99% of it. Didn't like the ending.

Didn’t even know about this movie but it’s getting pretty rave reviews on IMDB. I may go see it tonight

So just got out. This is a Christian horror movie basically and it touches on very sensitive topics. It is a gripping movie though and really makes you face some tough realities. I don’t want this thread to get political but if you are a liberal you will hate this movie and review it badly. I feel like I need to say that I’m a Christian so this movie may have more of an affect on someone like me than a non Christian. There are some tough scenes to watch toward the end.

Really good, not great.

8-9ish out of 10.

It's got a little bit of a Cast Away vibe in that 90% of the movie is two dudes talking in a cell. Lots of good dialog, and comedic relief, with some intense scenes.

All you need to know of why it's getting crushed by critics is because it's a Christian themed movie.

There is also not a single curse word in the entire film, not a drop of blood or gore, no sex, and yet it's rated R. There are a couple of intense scenes, one very intense, but not really graphic. If PG-13 was created in response to the Temple of Doom, then this would slide right under that bar with ease. The rating is bullshite and is an attempt by the movie industry to inhibit sales and censor the movie, IMO.

ETA: Sort of like a modern day take on The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis if you are familiar with that.

One more thing I want to add is the the main actor deserves all the Oscars but won’t even get a nomination.

Good review.

I’d call it better than really good, even pretty great considering the type of movie it is and what it was trying to do.

Its cosmic/moral theology was spot-on from a Christian perspective, which is rare, even for Christian films. There’s a logical consistency to it. While many Atheists and other faith traditions will disagree with it, they won’t be able to nitpick it, only reject it in total.

Regarding the R rating and the “gore”, I have to disagree with you. Maybe you’re desensitized, but it was plenty gory, though not bloody.

It is very reminiscent of Screw Tape Letters! It’s also a realistic portrayal of actual demonic possessions and the exorcisms that I have heard described by exorcists or seen from videos on the internet. You can find many of those if your search.

I’m not surprised by the critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. So typical of them. The film practically takes direct aim at their worldview!

In this case, many of the critic reviews are so obviously nonobjective. For example, several criticized the acting (without any specifics) which is absurd. The acting was remarkable, especially Nefarious/Edward.

It’s getting hammered by critics because it’s anti-woke

This is a must see

Sean Patrick Flannery is in this and he is a solid human being.

Resurrected this thread, because this was recommended to me by a close friend.

Excellent flick. The acting is superb, and the dialogue is outright brilliant. A very realistic take on possession. Sean Patrick Flanery is phenomenal, and shows a range I legit didn't know he had.

Cannot recommend it enough. It's on Tubi.
