Tell Them You Love Me explores the extraordinary story of Anna Stubblefield, an esteemed university professor who becomes embroiled in a controversial affair with Derrick Johnson, a non-verbal man with cerebral palsy. Anna says she unlocked Derrick's mind from his body by teaching him to communicate using a keyboard. The relationship that followed would lead to a criminal trial that would challenge our perceptions of disability and the nature of consent. Through exclusive footage and interviews with those on both sides of the case, this feature documentary weaves a riveting and endlessly nuanced story about communication, race, and sex.

While I’m sure it’s a good documentary, Facilitated Communication (FC) is such a massive crock of bullshite and so ripe with ethical violations it’d probably raise my BP a few points to watch this.
And folks scream about how everyone they disagree with is a groomer but Anna Stubblefield actually is one. And should be thrown in jail and the key be thrown away.

She was definitely crazy. I don’t know what to think. I have so many conflicting thoughts about this situation.

They never explained the papers he wrote with the other FC who wasn’t aware of the topic or what the assignment was. So without explaining that I have to believe he was able to communicate truthfully via the FC

I haven't watched it, but did the dude literally type his consent or did she hover his hand over a keyboard like a game of Ouija?

Yeah, but the girl admitted she had a friend who was taking the class and she discussed things with her friend.
It seems to me, if he could clearly communicate with a device like that then they would have pushed a lot harder to have him called as a witness or be used in the documentary. I found it odd that they didn’t even address why they never tried to communicate with him for the doc. Not even a “the family declined us to try and speak with Derrick via FC.”

They didn’t clarify the timeline of that though. Too me it seemed he wrote it and she then conferred with another person after the fact.

Yeah, I think what happenned is the court deemed inadmissible ANY of the FC stuff, including that book report stuff from that other girl at school that was doing FC for those book reports
I also didn’t understand why the expert guy didn’t do his “card” test with Anna and Dman to see if they would type different words
I personally think Dman could communicate… to what level is the big question

You should watch the HBO show "Tell me you love me"

Is it good? That’s a different show than this

idk if i was at trial for this I would have some pretty cut and dry experiments done.
Guy gets told a code word by person A. Person B who has no idea what the code word is helps him type it out.

Um, it is very sexual. My advice is just to check it out.

I watched it, and the White lady using the communication was making everything up as to talking to Dman. Its very disturbing what she did to him and i felt for the mother and brother of Dman.
In my opinion she should still be in jail for what she did.
