A great western starring Kurt Russell but one of the most gore-filled movies ever. Not the entire movie & the gore is relevant to the movie, not for shock effect, but the gore that is shown is raw, open gore. Not for any kids in the room.

Watched it tonight and wasn't impressed. It's such a slow moving movie I almost gave up on it a couple times.

As far as "gore filled", I found the movie "Hostel" far more gorier and graphic than "Bone Tomahawk".

Well, that's my take anyway.

It was gore just for gore. Movie was rather pointless, and boring. Didn’t care for it.

Ah, a kindred spirit. I too found the movie to be not only slow, but like you said------"Pointless".

SPOILER ALERT for those who've not seen it.

I thought it ludicrous when the guy cuts out the voice box to use as a game call to lure other savages to their demise. Add to that, the most crippled up guy in the rescue party winds up being the hero..........

“Well the sheriff told me to get you, but I’m old and I forgot.”

For those that didn’t notice, Chicory is played by Richard Jenkins, the dad from Step Brothers and many other great roles. He was by far my favorite character.

I haven' t watched it in a few years, so time to revisit. My memory was it's a good, not great movie and I agree it was pretty slow until it wasn't. I'm not sure I'd have stayed with it without Kurt Russell. The gore is certainly memorable and made me wince but far from the worst ever.

Feel the same way. I only finished it b/c of him.

SPOILER ALERT

The opening sequence with 2 drifters slitting throats of 3 men sleeping around a campfire and robbing them set the tone.

After that it is relative normal western type violence until later in the movie when the eventual hero cuts out the "guzzelpipe" of one of the savages attacking the rescue party and uses it as a "game call" to lure other savages to him so he can kill them. OH, and he's the one making the tiring to watch long trek on a seriously infected leg and being left behind by the original search party.

The worst of the lot is when the savages, having taken prisoners of the search party and the already abducted people decide it's time to eat one of them and they first strip him naked, scalp the guy and then hoist him up by his legs to split him down the middle like a side of beef. That took up about 1 minute of film time from start to finish.

Yeah its really not some kind of all-time gorey film besides that scene. And even that scene is over in a few seconds. Its gnarly, but considering its just a movie, its not that bad. The blind, maimed, pregnant women were more disturbing to me.

I didn’t care for the camera work.
It’s the modern trend of movies where the camera is constantly moving. It’s like every shot is an handheld shot. Even in a scene where it’s just looking at a bar where people are talking the shot is still slightly moving. I just noticed it a lot in this movie, it was distracting.

Other than that the movie is ok. Nothing terrible just not great. Probably wouldn’t revisit it down the road.

The end scene was pretty vicious.
That movie moved way too slow. I fast forwarded until i saw something happening.

Very dissapointed since I had heard alot about it.
