EXCLUSIVE: Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner are in early talks to return for a new film in the Meet the Parents franchise, in development at Universal Pictures.

Plot details are being kept inside the circle of trust. John Hamburg — who co-wrote all three prior films in the franchise, and produced the most recent, Little Fockers — is set to write the screenplay. No word yet on who’s directing.

A comedy juggernaut hinging on uncomfortable situations with in-laws, Meet the Parents centers on the hilariously awkward and tension-filled dynamics between male nurse Greg Focker (Stiller) and his intimidating, ex-CIA father-in-law, Jack Byrnes (De Niro), watching as the dynamic between them both evolves and stays the same, as Greg marries Jack’s daughter, Pam (Polo), and has children with her. Also a core cast member, Danner plays Jack’s wife, Dina. While Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand also appeared in multiple films as Greg’s parents, Bernie and Roz — along with Owen Wilson as Pam’s ex-boyfriend, Kevin — it’s not yet clear whether they’ll return.

They probably should've taken the hint with how the last one performed. At 81, it's like 50/50 at this point whether DeNiro even makes it through the filming tbh

You can’t milk a cat, but you can milk every last ounce of a previous hit film

An 80 year old trying to walk in those stacks he wears to look taller should be humorous at least

Great. A pair of actors whose star power has faded and haven't been in much of anything good for over a decade. Nothing says paycheck like forcing a fourth movie after the last one was just a steaming pile of crap.

Obvious plot is the daughter is older and she brings a guy home to meet Greg.

Greg is now the crazy father. Deniro just sits back and laughs.

It made $310 million at the box office.

First one made $330 million.
Second one made $522 million.

Like them or not, they make bank. I've only seen the first two...never got around to seeing the third one. But I liked the first two. First one is obviously much better ( even though Greg is obviously too good for Pam ), but I liked the second one well enough.

I just hope De Niro can manage to get through filming in between throwing Trump fits every five minutes.

Deniro thinking Greg had an affair and fathered a child out of wedlock and then this trading card reveal was funny (Rusty Bridges):

They absolutely shite all over the legacy of the first film with the completely humorless sequel.

Or you flip the script. Son brings home a girl, and Greg’s wife and Jack team up to give her hell. Greg has to deal with his wife turning into her dad, etc.
