Watched it when it came out, and tried to watch it the other night but Netflix kept crashing when I tried to start it. Great movie.

I watched this movie last night based on this thread. Great Movie. Makes me paranoid as frick to let my kids go out in the neighborhood unattended though. realizing who the retarded guy really was...But I still could not figure who the abductors were until the mazes started popping up.

All the people just now watching this is wild to me. It was pretty publicly praised 10 years ago and I feel like it’s mentioned on here a couple times a year. But yes great great movie.

I forget Villanueva directed it every now and then and when i do, I’m reminded how freaking good he is.

Guy can make some movies no doubt. One of his earlier works predicts his undeniable talent.

**********SPOILER ALERT****************

Still did not get why both Alex Jones and the other accused abductor both put
themselves through the abuse they went through (obviously and especially Jones) when they were both victims themselves.Perhaps Alex wasn't completely innocent (dog leash, taunting
Hugh Jackman) or he thought his "Aunt" would kill em if he snitched.

I think that since he was abducted at such a young age, he was highly tortured and influenced by the people who took him. That is why he was still acting like a child.

Both boys, although grown and technically free, are still essentially her prisoners.

I imagine a copious amount of LSD and Ketamine from an early age has a pretty large effect as well.

Watched last night for the first time. Enjoyed the movie and prob needs a rewatch. Got some questions (spoilers):

Never understood the maze thing. Was never explained?

The woman at the end when putting the dad in the hole mentioned ‘they’d come back and kill her’. Who were they???? I’m guessing part of the bigger cult? In the little black girls images there were multiple men chasing after them.

Never fully understood the purpose of the kidnappings. Not a sex trade scenario. Not an adoption scheme. Why were they kidnapping and killing kids? Usually serial killers will have an explained motive.

and the side show copycat was just sorta weird and over the top considering he had no involvement.

At the end of the day I can’t imagine being caught in this scenario. The van guy specifically. I could never bring harm to a human like that without absolute proof. Even then. I’d wish them dead, not witness the horror of torture.

Very disturbing movie.

Their child died and they wanted others to feel that pain

Great movie but brutal as frick. The car ride to the hospital is one of the most tense movie scenes I’ve seen.
