Looking back at her early career I am struck by one fact. I know it was the 80's but how in the hell was this not labeled "child porn". There is no way even half of this stuff could be done today.

I understand what goes on in Hollywood is truly awful, but at some point the women involved in this need to show a smidgen of agency and say enough is enough. That almost never happens, however, because many of these celebrities are willing to take the negative consequences due to the fame and fortune they amass out there.

I blame the parents of the 12-year-old for getting her involved and I blame the adult version of Brooke Shields for remaining involved.

Weirdly, I saw a clip of an interview on youtube yesterday of her talking to Howard Stern about an infamous nude photo shoot when she was NINE (!) years old. She talked about how they were shooting pics of her as a kid then as an "adult." So like she'd be playing in one scene and in the next one she was all dolled up in makeup and naked in a bathtub. And she talked about how she fought to prevent those pics from coming out but they did anyway, and how evil the photographer was, and also about how her parents (or maybe just her mom) would just rationalize everything back then and say that it was okay.

It was weird.

The Blue Lagoon is a pretty good movie, I remember it from when I was young. But IIRC she was fully naked in that one and was only like 15 at the time. Just weird Hollywood shite back then, and it seems like a lot of adults in her life failed her.

IIRC, a making-of video I saw said the was a body double for the actual naked underwater (boobs/bush) shots.

In my teens in the 80s, I was in love/lust with young Brooke in Blue Lagoon and Endless Love. Such a gorgeous creature. But not long after, the attraction faded as her facial features (jaw/cheekbones/boney brow) kept growing, and now, she looks quite manly. I barely recognize her as the same person, unlike other other older beauties that retain some resemblance to their younger selves (Jennifer Connelly/Phoebe Cates).

Kid me watched Blue Lagoon and was amazed. As I grew up I realized how young she was and couldn't imagine how the shite that ever happened. My point being that in no way can you blame a 15yo for doing this; they are too young to understand these decisions they are making, especially after being groomed to find this normal at an even younger age.

I agree with your later post that the parents are absolutely at fault, but to absolve the perverts of Pedowood of their actions here is not correct. They all are at fault for taking advantage of a young girl.

The lure for fame and fortune brings sick parents to pimp out their children. fricking disgusting, and they should be beat down for it.

I blame her mother as much as the Hollywood types. She essentially prostituted her underage daughter to make herself more wealthy (and famous by proxy).

Both of you are right but I believe his first point was why aren't women doing anything about it now? Jennifer Lawrence and many other gave it up for their fame. They are quick to play victim when the truth comes out but they aren't quick to help other women

Watched that with the wife.

Brooke was surprisingly okay with it, maybe still in denial. Her own daughters even called her out on it, and asked if she would be okay with them doing that at that age and she said No, but still was never condemning of her mother allowing it.

Pretty Baby is the film that should be getting talked about. Blue Lagoon was a body double and she was several years older(but still a minor) than she was in Pretty Baby.

I still can't believe that Pretty Baby was ever released.

I met the author of the book that it was "based" on. He wrote a history of New Orleans' red light district which included the real life child abuse story. He was thoroughly pissed that they'd turned that chapter of his book into some twisted romance.

He was also an artist and had local fame as a jazz historian. He distanced himself from the film.

No one raped Brooke Shields as a child. Unless she is hiding an encounter, she has said on numerous occasions that she lost her virginity at the age of 22 to Dean Cain while they were studying together at Princeton.

We can definitely call out the Hollywood execs who were okay with pushing this content, but they didn’t sexually assault an underaged Shields as far as we know.
