1. The Silence of the Lambs
2. Manhunter

Big drop off

3. Hannibal
4. Red Dragon
5. Hannibal Rising

Silence of the Lambs and Manhunter are very close. Hannibal is so batshit insane and entertaining, Gary Oldman steals the show. Red Dragon is a bland and boring version of Manhunter. Hannibal Rising sucked. Never seen the Hannibal series….yet.

At least Hannibal was stylish. Red Dragon (2002) was just plain boring.

I have Manhunter at 1, but there’s a poster on this board that always says that this is just contrarianism. But it’s not. I like the style of Manhunter and Petersen’s performance enough to have it at 1. And Cox is an underrated Lecter.

The series was done well, but suffered from no season 4. The best indicator of how close Manhunter and Red Dragon are and the series is the repetition of the dialogue from one to the other.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a more overrated movie than Silence of the Lambs. Anthony Hopkins hammed it up so badly I outright laughed several times when he was supposed to be at his most "sinister". I couldn't for one second take him seriously as some kind of threat. Cesar Romero gave a more subdued performance as The Joker.
His whole escape scene was bordering on farce. Movies can ask you to suspend a certain amount of disbelief; that scene must've been written by a 5th grader.

Because it is contrarianism. Manhunter is a very good movie, but it's not Silence, which is one of the alltime greats of cinema.

Manhunter and the rest don’t even qualify. Brian Cox was far superior to Anthony Hopkins (no disrespect). Hopkins sounded like Peter Lorre on acid. The way he talked, nobody would be his patient!

This.

Not sure it is as good as Silence of the Lambs but the soundtrack alone puts it above the rest.

I've never been a big fan of Manhunter myself.
