never noticed this until tonight....
when petey tackles a guy and causes a fumble, a Titans player scoops it up and scores. The only problem is dude definitely returned it in the same direction and thus scored for the other team. Am I wrong or was this a frick up on their part?

I have this on DVR and I need to check it out. But for some reason I remember him returning it the opposite way, it's just the way the camera changed.

I never understood the one gay moment in the movie. The QB IRL isn't gay and was very upset they put that part into the movie.
It was definitely one of those WTF moments.

From what I heard there were no racial tensions among the football players either.

I read somewhere that all the team's they faced that season were integrated. and tc williams had apparently been integrated for years

from what I read there has always been racial tension. Even still, to this day they have a lot of racial tension in that town. It said that if anything, this movie downplayed some of it.

Was the racial tension in the community depicted accurately in the film?
No. Although racial tension did exist in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971, it was significantly embellished for the movie. For example, T.C. Williams High School saw the integration of black and white students when it opened in the fall of 1965, not in 1971. Former students state that many of the racial barriers had been broken down by 1971, when federal pressure resulted in the consolidation of three high schools, one of which was T.C. Williams. In an interview with the Greenville News, the real Ronnie "Sunshine" Bass said, "They (the movie) had a community divided down black and white, and it really wasn't like that in 1971 Alexandria." In a Washington Post article, Bill Yoast's friend Patrick Welsh commented on the movie's position, "My friend Bill Yoast ... told me Disney had taken liberties with the facts, suggesting an overheated atmosphere of racial animosities and fears at the school and in the community that just hadn't existed." Yet, it was clear that the Titans championship run did help the community to further come together.

Here are the real scores of the games that season. The only close game all year was against Marshall High School.
1971 Titans Schedule:
T.C. 19 HERNDON 0
T.C. 25 YORKTOWN 0
T.C. 26 HAYFIELD 7
T.C. 25 JEFFERSON 0
T.C. 21 MARSHALL 16
T.C. 29 GROVETON 0
T.C. 34 MADISON 0
T.C. 34 W & L 0
T.C. 27 WAKEFIELD 0
T.C. 26 IRETON ( BI ) 8
Playoffs
T.C. 28 ANNANDALE 0
T.C. 36 WOODROW WILSON 14
T.C. 27 ANDREW LEWIS 0
As you can see the team won 9 games by shutout. According to the movie every game was close. It would have been nice if Hollywood had just presented the story. What they put on the screen barely resembles what actually occurred at T.C. Williams High School in 1971.

No it wouldn't have the movie wouldn't have done as well in the box office and with video sales. I read the real story about the team a while back and still like to watch the movie because i take it for what it is, entertainment

Then count yourself among those that would rather see fiction than what actually happened.
There was enough there to make the movie and still make it entertaining. The paralyzed player? Actually occurred and the team did rally around him.

that's why i looked up what really happened with the team and had no problem with the movie after reading that because most movies "inspired by a true story" add something

i don't a movie about a dominating high school football team with no real drama on the field because they beat almost all of their opponents down

I loved the movie greatly, and I enjoyed the treatment of the racial issue, but it does suck a bit that they made the movie into pretty much solely a race relations lesson.

I agree USMC. I guess it bothers me more than it normally would because I have a good friend who attended T.C. Williams at that time. Although the movie was highly entertaining it doesn't even come close to his version of that year.

The only real problem I had with the movie was that the Titans ran a reverse on the last play of the game and scored a TD from like 60 yards out. C'mon man! Anybody who knows anything about football would know that the other team would be laying back 40 yards in a prevent defense and a reverse would've had zero chance of scoring...ok I'm done.

"The paralyzed player? Actually occurred and the team did rally around him."
from imdb
Though in the movie Gary Bertier is paralyzed before the Titans win State, he actually played in that game and was in the car accident afterward.
