Robert Duvall Westerns and more......

I was waiting on Big Brother last night and started a re-watch of Open Range. It got me thinking what a great freakin actor Duvall is.
First and foremost, Lonesome Dove, to me is his absolute best western and my personal favorite of all time, of all westerns.
Even as a supporting actor like in True Grit when he was younger he commanded the scene when he was in it.
Anyway, regarding Open Range, the gun fight at the end is 18 minutes of action.
What are your favorite Robert Duvall movies?
Oh and PS.. If anyone knows the name of the Duvall western where he is transporting some Chinese girls please let me know.. I've seen it before and loved it but cannot remember the name for shite..

Duvall is waaaayy up there on my list of favorite actors.
Gus McRae is, I think, his best character, but he has a lot of range. Everything from The Great Santini to Tom Hagen, to the preacher in The Apostle, to the singer in Tender Mercies to Boo Radley.
I enjoy his other westerns, but to me Lonesome Dove is on a whole other level.

He and Costner worked great in "Open Range". I remember first seeing him on an old "Twilight Zone" episode where he plays a mild mannered bachelor who becomes infatuated with a miniature doll residing in a doll house in a museum.
He sees her as a real woman and longs for a relationship with her. Strange storyline, but he pulled it off nicely.

Aside from classics like The Godfather, Westerns, etc.
I absolutely loved him in "Four Christmases"

I think Gus McRae is the best character and best actor combo in any movie ever made. The writing for the character is amazing and Duvall absolutely crushes it. Every time I watch Lonesome Dove I catch something new in Duvall's mannerisms, delivery, or even the actual lines that just blows me away.
I also like him in Joe Kidd and Days of Thunder, but everything he is in is watchable to me.

Yeah he was good in that and I love the movie too!
Boys, I don't want to speak ill of your mother on Christmas, but she's nothing but a common street whore.

I am with you on Lonesome Dove. There is no telling how many times I have watched it.
Also, Open Range is just so well done. The way it builds and builds and then explodes at the end is just so dang satisfying.

I actually think he's the greatest actor ever and Lonesome Dove is the greatest thing ever written or put on film.

The whole series is an epic tale. Books are incredible. I'm rereading them now for a second time. Movie did it justice.

He's prolly my favorite actor of all time. Most of his best roles have already been mentioned, but I wanted to add that he was also hilarious in Kicking and Screaming.

What's glaring is he dwarfs Costner in that movie. It was a great movie and pairing but not flattering to Costner.

Not many actors nail it every performance. He commands the screen whenever he is on it and even if the film isn’t the greatest it’s not because he didn’t bring a good performance.
The Apostle and One Night in Old Mexico are two I’ve watched recently that are a little off the radar.
