The Insider (1999) was directed by Michael Mann and featured Russell Crowe in an Oscar-nominated film, based on a true story, about big tobacco.

Gladiator (2000) was directed by Ridley Scott and featured Russell Crowe in an Oscar-winning film about gladiatorial combat in Ancient Rome.

A Beautiful Mind (2001) was directed by Ron Howard and featured Russell Crowe in an Oscar-winning biopic about a brilliant, though mentally disturbed, mathematician.

All three films were either nominated or won the Oscar for Best Picture. Russell Crowe was nominated for Best Actor in all three films, winning for Gladiator.

His portrayal of Bud White in L.A. Confidential was just two years earlier.

Add in Master and Commander, Cinderella Man, 3:10 to Yuma and American Gangster.

He had a legit run from '97 to '07.

L.A. Confidential had one of the best all around ensemble performances I have ever seen. It's a shame that of all the excellent performances in that movie, the only Oscar divvied out was to the weakest performance of the group (Kim Basinger).

Who cares? Axl Rose can be skinny, or fat, but OMG, the voice rocks. Crowe is 20 years older, and let me give you the old man news flash, you're not running a sub 5 40 when you're his age, unless you're David Goggins.

Crowe gave us some greats. Master and Commander gets a rewatch every few months, and I cannot turn it off once it gets going.

M&C:FSotW may be his #1 best movie. And that’s saying something because he’s got some great ones. But it may be that good.

I watched master and commander earlier this year for the first time. Have no idea why that movie doesn’t get mentioned more, it was fantastic.
