Scenes from a Marriage - Spoiler alert

My best friend insisted that I watch this show on HBO Max, and I think he executed the most epic troll of all time. If I weren't so impressed I'd be embarassed at myself. He told me to text him after watching the first episode and I sent him the following 4 texts (Spoilers):
"The name of the show is actually Scenes from a Marriage. The two lead characters are pretty annoying. I’m also not impressed with the husband who has a wife that’s the breadwinner. Call me old fashioned but I wouldn’t do that. The guy is a cuck. The study that this PhD student on gender norms is annoying as well. And asking for pronouns? I’ll keep watching."
"Who the hell is the black/white couple? They are married but they have other relationships? And she's also a lesbo? FFS I’m shocked you like this show. What am I missing?"
"This show is insulting to anyone that desires a normal, monogamous relationship. Because they portray those relationships as if they are toxic, unworkable and miserable. This is making me angry."
"I feel like the creators of this show made it to make me palpably angry. I’m serious. It doesn’t help that the wife looks like my ex."
His response:
"HAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Suffice it to say I would not reccommend you watch Scenes from a Marriage, but consider trolling your friends and insist they watch it.

I've only watched the first episode, but did they not portray the mix raced open relationship couple as toxic and miserable?

I got angry at a silly TV show, which in an of itself is silly. Plus I got trolled by my friend to add insult to injury. I just found the realities of all of these characters to be absolutely unbelievable. I like Chastain and Issac too.

Yes. The only lifestyle choice promoted in this series is being a selfish a-hole. Any message of progressive social acceptance is just background noise.

quote:Its the most emasculating thing for a man that I've ever watched. The storyline is insulting. I'll admit that I'm 37 minutes into the second episode. Maybe that's the point and the joke is on me.

I'd be hard pressed to find a more cucked-out husband in cinema, and I think Oscar Issac is good. Again, maybe that's the point. I'm going to chop some fricking wood to level-set.
